What we offer on a school trip
Mount Cook is an independent, not-for-profit outdoor education centre based on the edge of the Peak District in Derbyshire. Our mission is to improve lives through access to the outdoors, whether it’s through trying new adrenaline filled activities, or through developing new life skills. Since opening our new eco-friendly centre in 2016, Mount Cook have welcomed over 50,000 people through their doors for world class outdoor experiences.
With up to 180 beds in en-suite bedrooms, full board catering, and a highly trained team of friendly instructors Mount Cook has everything you need for your next adventure.
What makes us a great choice for education
Our new, purpose built center has clean, comfy rooms that sleep a maximum of 5 people, with an ensuite shower room or half suite in each room. We have accessible bedrooms, including wheelchair friendly rooms with hearing loops. Our quirky glamping pods offer an alternative accommodation option.
With a wide variety of exciting activities like zip wire, rock climbing, archery tag and bush craft, Mount Cook offers exciting development for all ages. All our activities include review sessions to ensure we are achieving the desired outcomes for your students, whether it’s personal challenge or developing teamwork skills.
Accreditation and Awards
AHOEC Gold Standard, AAIAC Adventure Mark, LOtC Quality badge, AALA License (climbing category) and are Institute of Outdoor Learning Members.
What is typically included on our school trips
Activities include high ropes, zip wire, archery, bush craft, landkarts, orienteering, guided walks, low ropes, rock climbing, abseiling, and more.
We also offer raft building, canoeing and caving through Acclimatize.
Evening activities include team challenges, campfire, rocket building and the Mount Cook challenge.
We also provide history packages for KS2 students – Viking Explorer, Prehistoric Britain, and Roman Invader which include specialized historical activities like military drills and archaeological digs.

Risk Assessment Details
We strive to make the booking process as easy as possible. Risk assessments for all activities and facilities are available on the website, alongside permission letters for parents, kit lists, powerpoint presentations, the nearest emergency services and more.
Pricing Information
We offer a per person package price, which includes all fully led activities, full board catering, and overnight accommodation.
Price for a 2 night trip ranges from £149 + VAT and £219 + VAT per person depending on the time of year.
We offer a 1:10 ratio of fre leader spaces, with discount available for an additional 1:1 adult place for SEND children.
First Aid Information
All activity staff are outdoor first aid trained, and crisis trained. There will always be at least one first aid trained member of staff available, including overnight if an emergency arises.
