Located in the Peak District National Park Crowden Outdoor Education Centre Derbyshire provides high quality outdoor education either on a residential or day activity basis. The instructors are all qualified and experienced outdoor practitioners, students will take part in adventure activities that include; Bushcraft, DofE, rock climbing, cave exploration, kayaking, stream scrambling, zip wire, archery and team-building exercises. Accommodation comprises of 40 beds spread across 14 bedrooms.

What makes us a great choice for educational groups


Situated in the Peak District National Park, Derbyshire, Crowden has 40 beds spread across 14 bedrooms, drying room, TV room, lounge with a games room and dining room with the option of full board, half board or self-catering.
We can provide full or part week residential outdoor activity programmes or a daily activity programme.
We can also link into accredited outcomes such as The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award or other relevant courses.
The programme can include evening activities however you may wish to use this time to undertake your own activities.

Our instructors will liaise with you to ensure the activities meet the outdoor and adventurous activities requirements of the national curriculum, providing fun and educational outdoor activities appropriate to key stage 2, 3 and 4. Based in the Peak District, it is easy for us to tailor the course to fit in with subjects such as PE where we can look at climbing skills, balance and co-ordination, water sport and navigation.
We can also build into courses, numeracy, literacy, problem solving and topic work such as water and the environment as we border a site of special scientific interest at Upper Longdendale, Special Protection Area and Brockholes Wood Nature Reserve.
Group Sizes


Outdoor Education Centre can accommodate up to 40 people on a residential basis and up to 70 people for day activities.

We are happy to arrange free pre-visit stays for teachers (subject to availability).
All activities are fully risk assessed and copies of risk assessments are available on request.

We provide 1 free staff place for every 10 children.
Clothing Requirements


All specialist equipment is provided. We also provide waterproofs, walking boots and wellington boots.
First Aid


All the outdoor instructors hold appropriate first aid qualifications. Visiting school staff usually have responsibility for the supervision of pupils overnight and should make appropriate plans for first aid.
