Patterdale Hall Residential Adventure Learning Centre Lake District is an amazing Residential and Adventure Centre on the shores of lake Ullswater, offering fantastic activities mainly using the natural and inspirational resources on our door-step. One of the key benefits of our location is that once you have arrived, no onwards travel is needed in minibuses; the lake, crags and hills are all just a short walk away.

Programmes are expertly created to meet the needs and objectives of the group.

The Ullswater Valley in the Lake District National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site is an inspirational place to arrive to and the Victorian Country House, Patterdale Hall, is a stunning location. Pair this with expert activity facilitation and an unrivalled quality of hospitality on offer and you have the perfect mix for amazing residential adventure learning.

Operating for over 30 years, a recent £2.5 million refurbishment project has left this outdoor centre in pristine condition.

Activities are numerous and include.

Gorge Walking, Rock Climbing, Canoeing, Kayaking, Paddleboarding, Sailing, Rafting, Ropes course, Archery, Problem Solving, Hill Walking, Orienteering, Wide games, Team Building, Field Studies, Creative Writing.

We have 71 student beds across 11 en-suite dormitories, along with up to 5 staff twin rooms. The combination by which we use the accommodation depends on the school in residence. Due to the accommodation being split into two wings, we can host up to two schools here simultaneously.

All dorms are en-suite or have a dedicated bathroom and contain between 5 and 9 beds. Beds are a range of standard and triple bunkbeds. The accommodation is modern and clean.

Groups can elect to have all the beds made up for them or to bring sleeping bags.

Patterdale Hall staff take the care, health and safety of all visitors, guests and colleagues extremely seriously. Relevant Risk Management information can be found on our website including evidence of our insurance arrangements. The number of quality badges, licenses and awards is testament to this.

We would love groups to capture their stays on whatever media they wish. They should first check they have all their own consent in place and not photograph, film or record any other young people without consent.

All Patterdale Hall staff are first aid trained and qualified, so when you are here, we’ve got you.

Fully Catered Kitchen, Dining Room, Free Parking, Activity Centre with Changing rooms and shower. Extensive kit stores including Boots, Waterproofs and warm clothing. CCTV, Security Gates, Combination Locks, WIFI. Games room and social space, Lounges, Woodburning stoves, Extensive grounds, playing fields, Breakout/Classrooms.

Predominantly Fully Catered. Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Dinner. Adult Buffets. Additional meals by arrangement.

We do our very best to accommodate all guests and be an inclusive provider but recognize we are not a specialist provider for Disabled guests.  Due to the nature of our heritage site, we have limited wheelchair accessibility and must review each guest’s needs on a case-by-case basis. We have an accessible WC, shower and changing space, and a carer linked accommodation annex. Threshold ramps and step ramps where possible. The fire alarm is adapted to strobe in some dormitories. A PEEP is completed for guests with additional needs to access and egress from the property. In summary, we do our best for all our guests.

Situated on the shores of lake Ullswater, just 30 minutes or 14 miles from Penrith and the M6 motorway at Junction. Access is good by Coach and we can turn all sizes of vehicle around in our main yard.

Some groups may double up their visit with a stop at Aira Force (National Trust) or other Lake District locations such as Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage in Grasmere en-route to or from Patterdale Hall. We can assist you with ideas for transport logistics.
