On the water students can try kayaking, canoeing, bell-boating, stand-up paddle-boarding, sailing or raft-building — all led by trained instructors and adaptable to different ages and abilities. On land there is climbing, caving, archery, bush-craft, problem-solving challenges and orienteering.

Herts Young Mariners Base (HYMB) offers a variety of outdoor learning experiences that align with Key Stage and curriculum topic objectives for both primary and secondary school students, if a school wants something tailored this can be accommodated.
Curriculum Topic
We design its activities to support learning across several subjects and Key Stages:
Key Stage 2–4: Activities are tailored to build confidence, teamwork, and physical education skills, which are core components of the national curriculum.
Cross-curricular links: We program to integrate elements of geography (e.g., water-based navigation), science (e.g., environmental awareness), and PSHE (e.g., resilience and cooperation).
Group sizes
Ages range from 8 years old and above and group sizes are 1-10 ratio with an instructor; we can accommodate over 160 children per day.

Clothing requirements

First Aid
Herts Young Mariners Base staff are trained to deal with first aid incidents.
