Tarset Tor Bunkhouse and Cabins are located in a secluded spot on the edge of Kielder Forest in the heart of the Northumberland National Park. Offering versatile, eco-friendly self-catering accommodation, our cleverly constructed holiday homes are perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, large groups and family gatherings. We are 11 miles from the renowned Kielder Observatory which makes us the perfect place to star gaze.

We provide all bedding, bed linen, washing up liquid, bin liners, hand towels, tea towels and cleaning supplies.  There is a 5 a side football/netball pitch, a wildlife pond and 5 acres to explore.

Our purpose-built eco settlement evolved as part of a regional initiative to support sustainable local communities and is perfectly situated amid the rugged landscape of the Northumberland National Park. Tarset Tor sits comfortably in its surroundings, providing thoughtfully planned 21st-century accommodation to guests looking to explore this rich and diverse area, delighting backpackers, families and adventure junkies alike.

Our knowledge of the local area means we can suggest and organise activities to suit every taste, including fishing, horse riding, quad biking, golf tours survival skills courses and adventure breaks. We specialise in group bookings; our versatile Bunkhouse can be transformed into the perfect venue for an extended family gathering, social or inspirational corporate event.

We are situated in the Northumberland National Dark Skies park.

We have a 5 a side/netball pitch and a sauna on site.

50 individual beds spread across 5 buildings.

The Bunkhouse sleeps 16/20 in 4 separate rooms each with 1 double bed and 3 singles.
3 Cabins (Jupiter, Saturn and Venus) sleep 8 people each in 2 separate rooms each with 4 single bunks and an en suite shower.
2 Cabins (Mars and Mercury) sleep up to 6 in 2 rooms, 1 with a king size bed and 1 with 4 single bunks.

The Bunkhouse is £395 per night midweek and £675 per night over a weekend

Cabins which sleep up to 8 are £195 per night midweek and £225 per night over a weekend.

We can offer a 10% discount to schools outside of school holidays.

There are first aid kits in all the properties but no qualified first aider on site so schools would need to supply their own.

Self catering but can do packed lunches if required – there would be a charge for this obviously.  Most large groups organise a supermarket delivery which we can make sure goes where it needs to be.

We do not have qualified SEN staff but I’m ADHD so am very aware and empathetic! ONLY the Bunkhouse is fully wheelchair accessible with large doorways and a ramp to enter and exit.

We are open all year round apart from the first 2 weeks of January.

The small hamlet of Lanehead in the Northumberland National Park is home to Tarset Tor. Around 40 miles from both Newcastle and Carlisle and 11 miles south of the Scottish border, we are deep in Hadrian’s Wall country with the stunning north-east coastline just an hour’s drive away. There couldn’t be a better base from which to enjoy all this magnificent region has to offer.

The Calvert Trust and Kielder Reservoir are 10 miles from our doorstep. We are on the Pennine Way and are 15 miles from Kielder Observatory.

Being in the Dark Skies Park means that on a clear night you can see the Milky Way with the naked eye.
