What we offer on a school trip
The aim of Big Hat Bushcamp is to give school groups and children the ultimate bushcraft experience and leave all who visit the Bushcamp with the knowledge and confidence to safely enjoy the outdoors.
All of our activities are designed to promote personal development, teamwork and leadership, as well as inspire an enduring passion for fresh air and the great outdoors.
Through activities such as matchless firelighting, campfire cooking, shelter building, archery, navigation, wilderness first aid and traditional bushcraft skills, groups at Big Hat Bushcamp discover for themselves how to leave behind the clamour of the 21st century.
Amidst the beautiful woodlands of historic Runnymede in North Surrey, we run courses, year round, and for those who wish to immerse themselves in the outdoors, an overnight stay is always an option.

What makes us a great choice for education
Give a child a fish… they’ll ask you why you just gave them a fish. Teach them to cook a meal over a campfire… suddenly the outdoors is a place you go to live well. We teach practical and highly rewarding outdoor skills that our young visitors immediately get to put into practice, to learn how to look after themselves away from home and fully appreciate what our green spaces have to offer.
What is typically included on our school trips
All of our course programmes are tailored to the requirements of the visiting groups, from a wide selection of activities. Most groups opt for firm favourites, such as matchless firelighting, campfire cooking, and shelter building. Groups staying overnight are encouraged to make use of our basha shelters and hammocks, and perhaps partake in an after-dark stalking game.
Group Sizes Catered For
Most group are of 15 to 60 young people, but smaller groups are always welcome, as are groups of up to 2 to 120 (plus staff).
Photography, Filming & Audio Restrictions
We adhere to the policies of our visiting groups.
