What we offer on our school trip Educational Tours
‘The educational experiences allow students of all levels to gain a fascinating insight into the high-performing world of Manchester City, linking key aspects of life at the Etihad Stadium to the National Curriculum and Exam Boards.
Led by teachers and trained guides, students explore the stadium and pay special attention to features relating to their chosen workshop.
As well as the regular stadium tour, an educational experience includes one of the following workshops:
- Day in the Life of a Footballer (PE/Sports Science)
- Urban Regeneration (Geography)
- Stadium as a Business (Business Studies)
- Modern Foreign Languages in Football (MFL)
- Match Report (English)
- Careers in Football (Careers)
Day in the Life of a Footballer
(designed for GCSE PE Pearson EdExcel, OCR Level 1/2 Sports Science & AQA A-Level PE – a differentiated version is available for primary schools)
Ever wondered how footballers prepare for the big game, and how they recover afterwards? Using information from our 1st team coaches and nutritionists, this workshops studies how elite athletes achieve peak performance and minimise the chance of injury.
Urban Regeneration
(designed for GCSE Geography – a differentiated version is available for primary schools studying local history)
Focusing on the principles of regeneration and using the Etihad Campus as a case study, this workshop investigates the story of East Manchester throughout the 20th and early 21st centuries, highlighting the different phases of regeneration up to the current development of the new North Stand and the Entertainment District.
Stadium as a Business
(designed for GCSE Business EdExcel/OCR/AQA, Pearson BTEC Business Level 3 & AQA A-Level Business – a differentiated version is available for primary schools)
The business side of football has changed a great deal since Manchester City were formed in 1894! This workshop explores some of the commercial aspects of a modern football club such as matchday revenue streams, marketing, technology and sustainability.
Modern Foreign Languages in Football
(designed for high schools but a differentiated version is available for primary schools)
Immerse your students in MFL as we reveal to the students the myriad of benefits that being multilingual brings. After discussing the different languages spoken at Manchester City and the job opportunities that are available to bilingual people, we then broaden your students’ knowledge with an activity which teaches them football-related phrases in a foreign language. These phrases are then incorporated into our role-play activity, where students use our resources to perform their own foreign-language interviews in the very place where the footballers do it on matchday – make sure that you get these on film!
Match Report
(designed for primary school English but a differentiated version is available for high schools)
What is it like to be a sports journalist interviewing players after a game? This is what your students will explore as they learn about the different types of questions and effective interview techniques. After watching the highlights of a football match, the students will then visit the media area and use their new skills in the context of a post-match interview, taking turns to be the players and the journalists in front of the advertising boards!
Careers in Football
(designed for the Gatsby Benchmarks in schools and colleges)
What kind of jobs are available at a football club? This experience broadens students’ horizons by introducing them to a wide variety of roles at the club – some that they may have been aware of, and others that they might not otherwise had considered! By challenging stereotypes and raising aspirations, this encounter with a premier league employer helps to link curriculum learning to careers and provides advice on how to check for job opportunities at the club.
What makes us a great choice for educational groups
The Manchester City Educational Tours won the School Travel Awards ‘Best Sporting Venue’ in 2023 and the Stadium Tour won the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards ‘Best of the Best’ in 2024.
Our Education Team consists of two qualified teachers with over 40 years of classroom experience between us. Having been subject leaders ourselves and led many school trips of our own in the past, we fully understand how important it is to have a well-organised visit which meets objectives from the National Curriculum whilst raising aspirations. We continue to update and expand our workshop offering to ensure that your visit will be one that your students never forget!
Our immersive tour provides the students with an insight to what the players and VIPs experience on a matchday, with the latest technology bringing the areas to life in some unexpected ways!
