What we offer on a school trip


We offer schools and students the opportunity to embrace the legacy of the London 2012 Games and learn exciting cycling disciplines in safe, supervised sessions all run by fully qualified coaches. Experiences range from hands on cycling activities to walk and talk tours of this iconic sports venue.
Indoor track (Velodrome)
This exciting track cycling session is a great way to introduce students in year seven or above (11 – 18 years old). Students will be taught skills in the world famous London 2012 Olympic Games track centre. For this session, all students will need basic experience of riding a bike and there is a minimum rider height 145cm (4ft 9in). Our supervising coach will be responsible for students on the track, with the school teacher responsible for students in the track centre waiting area.

BMX
Aimed at introducing BMX cycling to students in year 3 or above (7 – 18 years old. Minimum rider height 127cm / 4ft 2in). As well as riding on the remodelled London 2012 Olympic BMX track, the secondary practice track can be utilised by students under teacher supervision. All students need basic experience of riding a bike. Students will be supervised by the coach on the track, whilst the rest of the class are supervised by a school teacher.
Availability: Monday – Friday 10.15 – 11.15, 11.30 – 12.30, 13.00 – 14.00 & 14.15 – 15.15
Cost: From £125 per session for up to 16 students
Mountain Bike Trails (Skills Area)
The venue will devise a series of trail sessions for students in year 6 or above (10 – 18 years old. Minimum rider height 135cm / 4ft 5in), which will help students to become safe, competent riders. All students need basic experience of riding a bike. Students will ride with both a coach and cycling competent school teacher. One cycling competent teacher must ride (mandatory).
Availability: Monday – Friday 10.00 – 11.00, 11.15 – 12.15, 12.45 – 13.45 & 14.00 – 15.00
Cost: £125 per session
Road Circuit
Aimed at introducing road cycling to students in year 6 or above (10 – 18 years old. Minimum rider height 135cm / 4ft 5in). Depending on ability, students can ride in groups or as a single pack. All students need basic experience of riding a bike. Students will ride the circuit with either a coach, and/or cycling competent school teacher on a road or MTB bike.
Availability: Monday – Friday 09.45 – 10.45, 11.15 – 12.15, 12.30 – 13.30 & 14.00 – 15.00
Cost: £110 per session
Pedal Up Schools
The Pedal Up school sessions consists of a full range of fun games and activities to master the FUNdamentals of cycling. Riders will learn to master basic skills such as cornering, braking, generic bike handling, but ultimately having fun and coming away wanting to do more! Pedal Up sessions will include mini versions of the main disciplines we have to offer in the venue. It is strongly recommended that schools book Pedal Up sessions prior to booking one of the main disciplines. In the event that the school books a main discipline and the coach deems certain pupils do not meet the required level of skill to take part in the session, those pupils will be required to sit out of the activities and must be supervised by a member of school staff. If all, or the majority of pupils do not meet required standards for the main discipline, the coach will stop the discipline specific session and deliver Pedal Up Schools activities on a flat area. Students in year 5 or below will have their session in our Track Centre. Students in year 6 or above will have their sessions outside on our Road Circuit to allow for extra space.

Tour of the Venue
We also offer a tour and talk on Lee Valley VeloPark, which will last one hour. It’s a great way to understand the venue and its impact following the London 2012 Games. It’s for a maximum of 15 students per tour costing £50.

All equipment is included including bikes and helmets to take part in the activities.
Group Sizes


16 students per session, however we can run multiple disciplines at the same time.
Photography, Filming & Audio Restrictions


Photos can be taken for personal use only, not commercial use. Photographs should only be of the person or group concerned, not other individuals.
Filming must be approved in advance as we have an obligation to notify others that this is taking place and seek permissions. Filming will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
Risk Assessment


Yes, our risk assessments are for our operating purposes. We do not generally issue these as these are our own internal documents.
We ensure all activities, session types and user groups are covered by comprehensive RA’s.
Groups should be risk assessing their visit from their own perspective and we will provide supporting information as requested or confirm that we have RA’s in place.

Clothing Requirements


Velodrome Track riders are required to wear clothing that covers the shoulders.
BMX riders are required to wear clothing that fully covers the arms and legs. Shorts and short-sleeve shirts are not permitted.
Mountain Bike Trails (Skills Area) riders are required to wear clothing that covers the shoulder.
Road Circuitriders are required to wear clothing that covers the shoulders.
Pedal Up Schoolsriders are required to wear clothing that covers the shoulders.

General notes
- All students MUST be competent bike riders to participate
- The cost of school sessions are standard rates and are non-negotiable. It is based per session, not per rider
- School sessions are only available during the times stated above. School sessions will not be run on evenings, weekends or school holidays. If you are not able to attend during these specified times, you will need to book onto our public sessions via our website or by email
- Duration – each session is 1 hour (Must arrive 30 minutes prior to session time for a prompt start & dressed in riding clothes if possible)
- Maximum of 16 students per session
- Teachers are not permitted to ride in the session and must act as supervision with the exception of MTB (1 teacher must ride) & Road (up to 2 teachers may ride)
- Equipment: Mandatory equipment inclusive of price (Bikes/helmets/gloves where required)
- Coaches: 1 x British Cycling qualified coach will lead the session
- Confirmation emails (including risk assessments) will be sent upon the completion and return of the hire agreement
- Invoices will be raised shortly after the return of the hire agreement, please note purchase order numbers must be stated in the notes section of the form where applicable
- Payment will need to be made a minimum of 30 days prior to the booking, as sessions will not be able to take place without payment made prior to the session date
