National Justice Museum The City of Caves

The City of Caves offers tailored, hands-on educational visits designed for school groups across Key Stages 1 through 3. Delivered through the National Justice Museum’s dedicated learning team, visits can feature guided historical tours or immersive curriculum-linked workshops—such as Cave Detectives (KS1), Cave Explorers (KS2 mini-digs), and Nottingham Rocks (KS2 geology)—which examine the site’s unique transition from medieval tanneries to Victorian slums and WWII air-raid shelters. School bookings include generous free supervisory teacher places (1 free adult per 7 primary pupils or per 10 secondary pupils), along with downloadable risk assessments, pre-visit teacher access, and dedicated lunchroom facilities located at the main museum 5 minutes away. Because total daily school capacity is capped and entry is staggered to navigate the enclosed subterranean spaces, schools are encouraged to book at least two months in advance.
