What makes us a great choice for educational visits
Hull New Theatre offers a huge range of entertainment from dance, drama, opera and music. The venue also features state-of-the-art technical and backstage facilities, making the theatre suitable for providing educational backstage tours. We also have a studio space ideal for theatre workshops, which enables us to hold sessions hosted by national and international touring companies.
What is typically included on our school trips
If your school is thinking of booking to see a performance, our box office team will endeavor to answer any questions you may have regarding your visit. If your school is interested in backstage tours or if you’d like your students to participate in a workshop, depending on which show you have booked for, we may be able to create a bespoke theatre workshop.
Group Sizes
The theatre has maximum seating capacity of 1,300 and therefore the theatre can accommodate a variety of group sizes. Backstage tours and workshops are generally limited. Please ask about specific numbers when making a booking.
Materials, Resources & Information Provided
Some of the shows that tour to our venue will have educational resources and teachers’ packs. If you are coming to see a show and require some something specific to enhance your experience from an educational perspective, please enquire and we will endeavor to help.
Photography, Filming & Audio Restrictions
We do not allow any photos or videos to be taken during a show, but if your students would like to take any photos of the auditorium either before or after a show, this should not be a problem.

If your school is coming to see a performance, first aiders will always be present.
Available Facilities
The venue has numerous options for hot food, light bites, snacks, and drinks, which are available in the Main Foyer, Lounge Bar, and Circle Bar. There is a kiosk in the theatre’s foyer which sells sweets, drinks, ice creams, and crisps before, during the interval and after the show. Groups should contact the Facilities Manager in advance if they wish to bring packed lunches. Merchandise for all shows is available in the main foyer. There are toilets on all floors.
Accessibility & Disabled Facilities
Hull New Theatre has full level access, wheelchair spaces, accessible toilets – including a dedicated Changing Places toilet and a disabled toilet complete with hoist. There is lift access to all floors. Please note that unfortunately the circle is not accessible to wheelchair users. The venue also has an Infra-red Assistive Listening System, T-induction hearing loops and hosts several BSL Interpreted, Audio Described, Captioned, and Relaxed performances. We can also accommodate assistance dogs.
