In between these everchanging urban centres are rural towns and villages offering a rich history, charming countryside and abundant historical heritage for the perfect school trip that provides fantastic rural experiences. The various metropolitan counties have provided a historical foot hold for the birth of many famous people such as Sir Frank Whittle 1907-96 (Co-inventor of the jet engine), William Pole 1814-1900 (Engineer), Ozzy Osbourne 1948 (Singer), George Fox founder of the Quakers, Henry Tonks 1862-1937 (Artist) and William Shakespeare there are many places of interest, historical buildings and venues that tell the history of science, music, biology, art, engineering, Industrial Revolution, manufacturing and more!.
