What we offer on a school trip prehistory residential experience


Celtic Harmony Camp is an Outdoor Prehistory centre offering both day trips and residential stays to schools. There are 3 residential packages to choose from, ranging from 1 to 2 night stays and each featuring a slightly different experience. Residential trips at Celtic Harmony Camp offer pupils the chance to sleep in their own reconstructed Iron Age Roundhouse, while also taking on some brilliant activities. Here’s a breakdown of the 3 trips on offer
Prehistory Explorer 2 Days 1 Night. Target Audience: Key Stage 2
Take up the once in a lifetime chance to sleep in a roundhouse in this popular 2-day trip. On Day 1 enjoy a Stone Age Day, including Friction Fire Lighting and Hunting the Mammoth, before commencing with the night-time activities, from Pottery making to a bat walk. Embark on Boudicca’s challenge on Day 2 as you take on a Warrior Day complete with Archery, Demonstrations and Celtic face paint.

Prehistory Adventure
3 Days 2 Nights. Target Audience: Key Stage 2
Get at home in the roundhouses on this slightly longer trip. Enjoy all of the activities from the Prehistory Explorer with the addition of a Fire workshop with Outdoor cooking and more night-time woodland activities. Watch as your pupils work together to figure out Fire Lighting and race to be the first to start cooking, before they enjoy an evening including Pizza making, Tree ID and raft building.

Go Tribal Transition
3 Days 2 Nights. Target Audience: Key Stage 2-3
Support them in the transition from Primary to Secondary school with this trip, designed to build both confidence and friendships. Dive into Prehistory with a range of hands-on activities such as making soap arrowheads and weaving on warp-weighted looms, combined with team building challenges and experiences. Also featuring Camo Games, this trip encourages pupils top build a connection with both nature and their classmates.

First Aid


During the day there is always a first aid trained member of staff on site, with first aid kits and a defibrillator available around the site. There is nighttime security but each school will need at least one first-aid qualified person.
Available Facilities


There is a toilet block including a disabled toilet and washrooms with showers. Free on-site parking is available. The Café on site provides drinks and snacks at lunchtime. Teachers on residential trips benefit from free tea and coffee throughout their stay. Picnic tables are available for use at mealtimes. There is a shop on site with Celtic themed goods and souvenirs available. Card and cash accepted in both the café and the shop.
Catering options


Visitors bring a packed lunch on the first day but enjoy a hot evening meal and continental breakfast. Schools are provided with packed lunches on the second day and third if applicable. Example evening meals include Pasta & Jacket potatoes, BBQ dinner and Pizza. Celtic Harmony Camp is able to cater for most dietary requirements including Gluten Free and Vegan.
Accessibility & Disabled Facilities


The site is step free and there is an accessible pathway through the woods. There is a disabled toilet equipped with a grab rail, emergency alarm and shower facility. Celtic Harmony Camp often works with SEN children and are able to make adjustments to days to ensure everyone gets the most out of their visit.
Opening Times


Open to schools during term time 10am to 2:30pm. Staff on site 8-5:30pm. Security on site after hours during residential trips.

Location


Located a short drive from Hertford town centre, Celtic Harmony Camp offers the best of both worlds, as a centrally located rural location. It is possible to walk to Brickendon village from Celtic Harmony Camp, where you will find some small shops and a pub.
Room Sizes and Facilities


Pupils are accommodated in roundhouses with soft floor mats, but they need to bring sleeping bags. Teachers are in bell tents with camp beds, or roundhouses if available. Each roundhouse can sleep up to 15 children.
