What we offer on a school trip
The aim of Big Hat Bushcamp is to give school groups the ultimate bushcraft experience and leave all who visit the Bushcamp with the knowledge and confidence to safely enjoy the outdoors. All of our activities are designed to promote personal development, teamwork and leadership, as well as inspire an enduring passion for fresh air and the great outdoors.
Through activities such as matchless firelighting, campfire cooking, shelter building, archery, navigation, wilderness first aid and traditional bushcraft skills, groups at Big Hat Bushcamp discover for themselves how to leave behind the clamour of the 21st century.
Amidst the beautiful woodlands of historic Runnymede in North Surrey, 5 minutes from Chertsey railway station, we run both residential and day courses, all year round.

An important part of our ethos at Big Hat Bushcamp is that all we do for our visitors is provide supplies and equipment, and the guidance and supervision to sustain themselves with them. Nobody’s ever gone hungry at the bushcamp, because every group has the capacity to thrive in the woods.

Pricing Information
Price per head for full programmed bushcraft courses varies from £65 for small groups, down to £45, for groups of 20+.
This covers everything (accommodation, activities and food), and accompanying adults go free.
Exclusive site hire without a programmed course is also available from £10 per head, as is site hire with a partial course, e.g. just campfire cooking, for groups looking to use the Bushcamp as a base from which to run excursions.
First Aid Information
We always have first-aiders onsite.
Available Facilities
There is ample space around the fire-pits and picnic tables for groups to relax in the evening, for those not ready to retire to their hammocks after a full day of activities.
We have a sawdust toilet, and a jungle shower can easily be arranged for those willing to brave it.
We have hammocks and tarps, tents, and fire pits, plenty of water, and a piano.
If you’re looking to plan an off-site trip, feel free to ask for recommendations of local attractions, such as Thorpe Park and Runnymede.
Accessibility & Disabled Facilities
Though some parts of the camp are not fully accessible, we are always happy to make provisions for anybody requiring disabled access.
Opening Hours & Information
On request and subject to availability, we can be open any day for exclusive hire bookings.
Room Sizes and Facilities
Our accommodation is as spacious as our woods. Actually, our accommodation is the woods; children staying at the bushcamp put up their own hammocks under basha-shelters. Bell tents/teepees can also be provided with sufficient notice. For smaller groups visiting in colder months we have a 6m x 8m heated canvas tent.
