What does your residential centre offer for school trips
Picture the class arriving: ancient woodland on one side, a full activity programme waiting on the other, and nowhere to be but here for the next few days. Boundless Outdoors runs residential and day activity trips for schools across two centres in Worcestershire, Bell Heath near Belbroughton and Malvern beneath the Malvern Hills, each set in its own private woodland.
Once they arrive, the adventure starts properly. Pupils climb, swing, scramble and paddle their way through low and high ropes, climbing, archery, zip wire, bushcraft, orienteering and raft building, then bring it all together in team problem-solving challenges. Every activity is led by fully qualified, DBS-checked instructors, giving teachers confidence that pupils are learning in a safe, supportive environment. Curriculum days turn history and science into something pupils do rather than just read about: Victorian Water Cure, Iron Age Battles, Rocks and Fossils and STEM sessions all happen outdoors, with the woodland as the classroom.
Every trip is built around the school’s own learning outcomes, and instructors adjust pace and challenge on the day so every child, whatever their starting point, gets to succeed at something. Away from the activities, the same level of care continues, with our experienced chefs working closely with every school to understand dietary requirements and provide meals that cater for allergies, medical needs and individual preferences, so everyone can enjoy the residential with confidence.
What makes us a great choice for a residential school trip and educational group experience
Ask a class what they remember about their residential and it’s rarely the itinerary. It’s the moment they got to the top of the high ropes, or the friend who talked them through it. Boundless exists to create those moments, and the way the centres are run backs that up: a programme built around your group, one point of contact from enquiry to departure, and a pre-visit planning call so nothing is left to chance on the day.
Both sites hold the LOtC Quality Badge, AALS licensing, Adventure Mark and AHOEC Gold accreditation, and both have step-free access in key areas, so you have something concrete to point to when you’re asked how you know the visit will be safe and well run.
Above all, the team adapts activities, pace and environment for the group actually in front of them, That’s not a policy on the wall. It’s how every visit gets planned from the start.

“We appreciate everything you did during our stay and as a result the children had the best time ever. I would come to you whatever the weather.”
- Mr. Stokes, St Peters Academy
“Our Year 11 GCSE PE students had a fantastic time carrying out orienteering and climbing at Boundless Outdoors Centre, this was mainly down to the encouragement, advice and support they received from the instructors.”
- Mr. C. Miller, Director of Sport, Vandyke Upper School
Location
Bell Heath: Quantry Lane, Belbroughton, Worcestershire, DY9 9UU. Set in private woodland close to the Clent Hills, within easy reach of Birmingham and the wider West Midlands.
Malvern: Old Hollow, Malvern, Worcestershire, WR14 4NR. Set at the foot of the Malvern Hills, an established area for walking and outdoor activity.
Room Sizes and Facilities
Dorm-style rooms across both main centres, each sole occupancy for the visiting group, so pupils and staff have the whole site to themselves for the stay. At Bell Heath, the main house sleeps up to 77 children and staff in small shared dormitories, with extra capacity on the campsite in large 10-person tents, giving groups the option of a first-night-under-canvas experience with a staff tent on site overnight. At Malvern, accommodation for up to 118 pupils is spread across three separate areas: the South block has 56 beds across ten cosy bedrooms and larger dorms, the North block has 44 beds across two floors with shared bathrooms, its own common room and skittles alley for evenings, and the chalet sleeps up to 19 across four small rooms with step-free access and a disabled toilet and shower. A member of staff stays on the same floor overnight at Malvern.

Further information
Both centres offer dry hire and group bookings outside of term time (Scouts, Guides, faith groups, corporate away days and weddings), which some EVCs and bursars find useful to know when comparing venues that only do schools.
Boundless also runs staff training days, INSET sessions and away days for school teams, swapping the staff room for a woodland classroom, which some schools like to pair with their pupils’ residential visit.
