What we offer on our residential school trip


Woodlands Adventure & Outdoor Learning is owned by the Birmingham Boys & Girls Union, who are one of the oldest children’s charities in Birmingham, founded in 1906. (Charity No: 1120499).
We offer residential visits for up to 64 young people and 6 leaders, camping visits, full day and half day visits to all groups from all backgrounds. Our instructors are experienced in instructing activities for groups of young people with special educational needs and disabilities ensuring that our facilities are open to everyone to experience and enjoy.
Woodland Adventure’s staff team are experienced, fully qualified, first aid trained and hold an enhanced DBS. Their training is regularly updated and assessments are carried out on a regular basis both in house and by independent technical advisors and assessors.
At woodlands adventure every member of our team loves the outdoors and takes pride in making every young person’s experience the best it can be, encouraging resilience, team bonding, overcoming challenges, confidence and personal development ensuring they have a positive learning experience as well as having fun.

All of our visits can be tailor made to specifically cover any topic, theme or curriculum specification.
Safety and Security:
Every activity that we offer at Woodlands Adventure is fully instructed by qualified experienced activity instructors which are all based on site. Safety equipment is provided and fitted by the instructional staff. Daily inspections of the activities and equipment are carried out in house by independent technical advisors in accordance with H&S and governing body regulations.
Duty Instructors reside on site at all times for emergencies during all residential and canvas visits.
A CCTV system operates 24 hours covering the entrance, reception and rear car park. Our team members hold an enhanced DBS, first aid qualification and a child protection qualification.
Risk assessments are provided for the buildings, site and activities with every booking along with a copy of our public liability insurance. We also welcome pre-visits by appointment, for leaders to carry out their own risk assessments and discuss their visits in detail.

What is typically included on our residential school trips


We tailor make every visit to suit your groups particular needs or requirements. The activities are not set packages and every activity is chosen by the organiser making the booking.
Curriculum topics catered for but not limited to, include:
PE, Science, Geography, leisure & tourism, Environmental Studies, Mathematics, History, PSHE, STEM.

Photography, Filming & Audio Restrictions


As long as the teachers and leaders have no objections, photographs may be taken of their own group during their visit.
Risk Assessment


We provide risk assessments and a copy of our public liability insurance with every booking. Further information can be found on our website which also has lots of downloadable documents for printing off.

We can hold a date for 7 days on reserve.
To book, we would require you to complete a booking form which can be downloaded from our website: www.woodlandsadventure.co.uk. Go to the menu tab, choose the tab for downloads, the booking form is listed in the yellow box on the right-hand side of the page. Print it, scan it and email it to the email address above. We will then email you a deposit invoice for 50% or a full balance invoice if the booking is made 8 weeks or less from the visit date, accompanied with risk assessments and a copy of our public liability insurance.

Please contact us with your group size and preferred dates for day visits, camping and self-catered residential visits. We offer a one price package.

We also offer building hire only, adult first aid courses and staff team bonding days during off peak periods.
Clothing Requirements


Day visitors:
Sunscreen and any medication required.
Hat, Hoody, water proof jacket.
Food and soft drinks.
Towels and toiletries.
Spare set of clothing and footwear, including underwear for return journey.
Bag to put dirty or wet clothes in as they may get wet or muddy.
On the day wear loose jogging bottoms, not jeans as they are restrictive.
T shirt and hoody.
Old trainers.
Loose long hair requires tying up so that it does not get caught in ropes or harnesses etc.
Please note if clothes get muddy they may not wash clean afterwards so please do not wear expensive clothing or jewellery.
Please dress for the weather.

First Aid


Our staff team are first aid trained, have radios with them on the activities, access to a telephone in the case of an ambulance being required and there are many first aid kit stations around the 30 acres site. Every activity station has quick access to medical supplies.
For residential and camping visits, we do suggest that they bring a first aid trained leader and a first aid kit with them for use during their stay.
We always have a Duty Instructor on site at all times during residential and camping visits for added piece of mind.

Our activities are available for everyone encouraging children with physical disabilities, special educational needs and or complex needs to join in and get the most out of every activity. Disability hoists are available for children with physical disabilities allowing them to enjoy the same experiences as some more abled children and we have very experienced staff team.
Woodlands Adventure & Outdoor Learning is equipped with several disabled wet rooms with easy wheel chair access.

A 50% deposit is required to secure the dates, the balance for the visit will be required to be paid in full 8 weeks before your arrival date by bacs payment.
