What we offer on a school trip
Join us at Wellington Country Park for an action packed school trip!
Only 10 minutes from the M3 and M4, spend your days in this safe, open air, fun filled venue for children up to the age of 8 years old. Take a trip on the Miniature Railway, visit our farm yard friends at the Animal Farm, explore our brand NEW Adventure Playground and Pirate Ship, discover our collection of over 30 dinosaurs, go for a woodland walk to see our herd of Red and Fallow Deer in the Waterloo Meadow and much much more!
Why not add on one of our staff led workshops to your day out. We encourage learning through introduction and discovery, with woodlands to explore for mini beasts, farm animals to encounter and a lake for finding aquatic creatures, you will have an exhilarating and enjoyable trip away from the classroom!

What is typically included on our school trips
WOODLAND SCAVENGER HUNT
Our Woodland Scavenger Hunt workshop will take your pupils on an exciting walk through our ancient woodlands, offering a trail for the senses of touch, texture, smell and sight. Pupils will explore the area and collect a range of plants, leaves and seeds to be able to create a collage of findings.
Workshop learning outcomes:
- To explore using all the senses
- Create a personal collage to take back to school
- Learning opportunities linked to the early year’s foundation stage to include expressive art, design and conversation
- Search for a variety of items in the woodlands
POND DETECTIVE
Our Pond Detective workshop provides your pupils with an exciting hands on experience. Located at the edge of our well established lake on specially constructed pontoons. Pupils will have the opportunity to collect a vast array of aquatic mini beasts from our hugely diverse waters.
Workshop learning outcomes
- Discuss and identify water mini beasts and their habitats. To include those found in the water and on the surface of the water
- Collect and identify a range of water mini beasts through the use of collection kits, ID charts and group discussion
- Complete an activity booklet and record findings
- Learning opportunities linked to KS1 of the national curriculum to include:
– Science (working scientifically)
– Living things and their habitats
– Animals, including humans
ANIMAL FARM
Get up close to the animals on the farm! Fur, feather and shells can be found with a variety or animals to look at. Some are indigenous to this country but we also have some that are from other parts of the world. Pupils will be able to touch, look, smell and ask questions about the farm and the husbandry of the animals.
Workshop learning outcomes
- Discuss and identify the farm animals
- Recognise animals and their young
- Have an understanding of animal needs and the importance of care
BUG DETECTIVE
Our Bug Detective Workshop takes your pupils on an exciting journey of discovery through our beautiful ancient woodlands, which provide the ideal habitat for a vast array of mini beasts.

- Discuss and identify mini beasts and their habitats
- Complete an activity booklet and record findings
- Learning opportunities linked to KS1 of the national curriculum to include:
– Science (working scientifically)
– Living things and their habitats

Group Sizes Catered For
Wellington Country Park can cater for a whole school joining us for a fun day out.
We can cater for up to 90 children per day for educational workshops.

Photography, Filming & Audio Restrictions
We are happy for photographs to take place onsite however we would ask that they are used for in-house school use only.
Risk Assessment Details
We supply risk assessments for our Park and the workshops we offer. We welcome teachers to come and do a free site recce before their visit.

Wellington Country Park has a mix of rolled stone paths, tarmacked paths and woodland paths. Not all areas across the site are wheelchair accessible.
Toilets in our Main Reception Building, Centre Toilet Block and Animal Farm toilets have disabled toilets in both our ladies and gent’s toilets. A unisex disabled toilet is available in the Main Reception building and Centre Toilet Block.
