Weardale Adventure and Watersports Activity Centre provides exciting outdoor adventure activities such as canoeing, high ropes, rock climbing or gorge walking and many more. The centre also functions as a fully catered residential centre too. Weardale is the perfect place to learn outside the classroom while having great fun.

We pride ourselves on being able to provide bespoke activity days for schools and groups. We design the day based off what you want and will work with the school/group to make sure everyone gets most of the time spent with us.

What makes you a great choice for educational visits


We offer genuine outdoor activities for groups and schools, using local venues to enthuse, excite and motivate in a safe and educational environment.
We have a dedicated Watersports venue, ideal for Canoeing, Paddleboarding and Raft building. We have the water tested on an annual basis and have achieved a Green, EU bathing compliant 2 years in a row.

What is typically included on your school trips relating to Key Stage


We are able to work with a school or group to work with current curriculum goals, for example we offer exploration that works with any geology, historical studies about mining in the North East.
Group sizes


8 and up generally but we can offer activities to younger ages, we advise to get in touch and discuss your needs with us.
Materials provided


We provide resources relevant to the activity we are running, for example maps and compasses for adventure Treks.
Photography, filming & audio restrictions


We welcome filming and pictures; our consent form has a box about having pictures taken etc. We will also check with the group prior as well, to make sure everyone is happy.
Risk assessment


Risk Assessments provided to schools for Evolve as and when requested. Risk assessments are reviewed annually and when any changes are carried out to an activity/area.

Pricing


- Our prices are bespoke to what it is you are looking for, the duration of the day and if you would like catering.
- A normal day with 2 activities, 1 in the morning and one in the afternoon, with lunch can range from £40 – £80pp depending on the activities chosen.
- We don’t charge for staff places.
Clothing requirements


We provide all specialist equipment such as Wetsuits, helmets etc. We will also send a list of clothing needed for the day and the activities.
First Aid


First Aid stations on site and staff carry offsite bags to every activity. All staff are a minimum of Leve 3 Outdoor First Aid trained as well.
Available facilities


Games room with a pool table, table tennis, table football and outdoor games equipment. Common room with chill out chairs and tables for playing a selection of card and board games and a projector for educational workshops and movies.
Outdoor changing rooms and showers.
Large playing field and grounds for various games and relaxing with friends during free time.
Tuck shop available on request with a variety of fizzy drinks, chocolate bars, sweets and souvenirs.
Tea, coffee, squash and water available and included in the price when on site.
Accessibility & disabled facilities


Wheelchair access to the lower floor and outdoor changing rooms only. We currently don’t have a wheelchair accessible vehicle.
The Watersports venue – you are able to drive right up to the waters edge.

Open all year round, 7 days a week by booking only and what is advertised on the Events page on the website.
