Self catering accommodation for groups.

It currently has very basic facilities and only suitable for well organized and hardy groups (perhaps training a team before going off to a much more remote part of the world). It has limited washing facilities, portaloos and no hot water system. Heating is only provided, by pot bellied stove, in the common/dining room. Kitchen facilities are rudimentary (gas rings and hot water boilers).

The centre is for self programming groups.

A fantastic location within 8km/5miles of the summit of Scafell Pike and at the foot of Grey Friar.

Excellent base for adventurous activities such as

fell walking – Coniston Old Man horseshoe from the door

climbing – Seathwaite Butress, Wallabarrow Crag, Dow Crag

white water paddling – river Duddon

38 people in three large dormitories

No restrictions.

Building meets all current safety standards for electrical safety, gas and water supply with an alarm system for smoke and fire detection.

The accommodation is charged per night for the whole building and includes all costs.

No staff on site. Groups should have a first aid qualified person.

There is NO TV, video, internet connection or any mobile phone coverage. Nearside public telephone is 3 miles away.

Not currently suitable for disabled groups.

No public transport within 10 miles. Access only possible by car or mini bus over Wrynose Pass or from the south through Broughton-in-Furness.

Mainly bunks with a few single beds. Rooms for 16, 14 and 9.
