What makes us a great choice for education
As proud three-time winners of the School Travel Awards, Best Sporting Venue category in 2022, 2021 and 2017, Snozone has a rich history of supporting the National Curriculum by delivering learning outside of the classroom in conjunction with schools and colleges.
Our 170m indoor real snow slopes, safe environment and friendly expert coaches provide the best place to learn, improve and/or advance skills. There is no better place than Snozone to encourage young people to become involved in snow sports whilst at the same time improving their confidence and all-round social skills.
As well as providing the benefit of exercise and learning an exhilarating sport, skiing and snowboarding are great social activities. They enable students to work in an environment that is significantly different to any other and in a manner that is conducive to developing essential life skills such as; Responsibility, Leadership, Teamwork, Self-awareness and Self-confidence, along with unique movements and balance.
Snozone are an Approved Activity Centre for the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Bronze Award Scheme, supporting young people to learn, improve, develop and practice their skiing and snowboarding.
The Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award scheme is open to everyone who can demonstrate ongoing personal improvement through sport irrespective of their ability and therefore, our Snozone Disability Snowsports experts will ensure we can offer Snowsports regardless of sensory, physical or cognitive ability so Snowsports are accessible to all.Within the Physical Activity element of the DofE, there is no defined end goal in terms of pass marks, grades or level that is achieved. To gain the Physical activity element of the award, young people must be able to demonstrate the following attributes:
- Progression from where they started
- Commitment to the programme
- Dedication to learning
To take part we ask for a commitment to attend a 13 week course which we will design to suit individual ability levels:
- Level 1 is applicable to absolute beginners to Snowsports
- Level 2 is applicable to those who are at a basic standard equivalent to Blue Runs
- Level 3 is applicable to those who are at an advanced standard equivalent to Red Runs
For children who are taking part in GCSE/A level Sport or Physical Education, the Snozone DofE activity can lead to a higher award being attained as well as the opportunity to participate in Foundation Level Instructor training. Upon reaching 16 years of age this can be transferred to a full instructor licence and from the age of 18, they will then have the opportunity to become a Snozone coach – where they can help us share our passion for Snowsports across Europe!
SUPPORTING THE CURRICULUM
We specialise in the assessment of practical components for GCSE and A Level Physical Education and BTEC qualifications in Sport and Business Studies. We have full accreditation and expertise to assess capability, including video review for the student and in-depth feedback. Snozone is an approved partner for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and welcome students who wish to utilise slope activities as part of the programme to achieve their Award.
WORK WITH SNOZONE TO SHOW YOUR STUDENTS HOW A REAL BUSINESS OPERATES
Snozone is a thriving company and has to apply strategic objectives and operational procedures just like any other business. Students of the BTEC qualification in Business Studies can benefit from making a case study of Snozone and its complex operation. You may wish to bring your students for a tour of the venue and receive a presentation from the Snozone Directors, or one of our team can visit your school or college to deliver the presentation.
Please tell us what you would like to achieve and we can tailor the presentation to suit your needs. We value the opportunity to engage with schools in our community as a significant employer in the region.
LEARNING DOESN’T STOP WHEN SCHOOL FINISHES
Our activities mix pure fun with problem solving and the development of communication and engagement skills. We can also facilitate school projects which support good citizenship, environmental or social development initiatives.
SCHOOL SKI AND SNOWBOARD LESSONS
We specialise in offering ski and snowboard lessons at exceptional value for money. These can be booked as a beginner’s session or as a weekly activity, enabling your students to be ‘slope ready’ by the time of their school trip. We also work with schools to develop snow sports ‘clubs’ for students to attend regular weekly sessions as a group.
You may wish to simply give your hardworking students a morning or afternoon of fun, as part of their outbound excursions or as an end of term treat. Enjoy the thrills of sledging on real snow, while being looked after by our very capable team.
In addition, freshly prepared food and drink from our Alpine Kitchen is always available.
What is typically included on our school trips
Sledging Experience (3+ Years)
Using a sectioned off 60 metres of our real snow slope, give your students an experience of real snow as a part of an educational topic, or simply to give your hardworking students a morning or afternoon of fun, enjoy the thrills of sledging on real snow while being looked after by our team.
Polar Experience (6-11 years)
“You are all now polar explorers!
The team must pack up their sledge to explore the ‘mountains’ walking through the Polar Regions. They must work together to pitch up a tent at the top of the main hill and then all of a sudden a member of the team becomes injured, how will the explorers deal with it?”
After a fun and interactive talk with a member of our Snowsports Management Team, the Polar Experience gives children the chance to experience how the polar explorers may have felt when walking through the Polar Regions, involving them walking up the main hill to the top and then pitching a tent. We also take them through how the polar explorers dealt with injury and we take one willing volunteer to carry off the slope in on a body board.
We will spilt them into groups accordingly to the size and age, for larger size groups we suggest half doing our fun sledging activity first while another group does our Polar Walk and then swap around.
This activity also includes clothing hire (waterproof jackets and trousers) and a hot chocolate and cookie for each student.
Snow Talk
Want to put an educational twist to your visit? Our expert team can guide your students with our popular snow talk, perfect for before/after an on slope activity with us. A fantastic way to add on to your visit with us!
- How snow is formed & how we make it here at Snozone
- Keeping our snow fresh and groomed
- What animals live in these cold climates and how they survive
- What clothing we should wear in the cold
- How the cold affects our bodies
- Health and Safety in the snow
- What muscles we use when taking part in Snowsports activities
