What are our school workshops like?
Every school is unique, so we offer a variety of different options to suit different budgets and needs
We have taught over 1 million children in-school, with our superb range of resources that are accessible-for-all. Now with online options, we hope to reach even more children with these essential health & wellbeing topics. With all our programmes, whether in-school or online, our aim is to provide interactive lessons that take the workload off the teachers and really engage the children, so they learn to develop healthy habits from a young age.
Areas Visited
We are based in Reading but travel to most of England and Wales although travel charges and hotel costs may apply. Please contact us and we can advise. We also have online offerings available to suit schools that are too far away, have small budgets or are not taking visitors at the moment.
Accreditation and Awards
- We are a leading provider of Healthy Workshops & Fitness for schools with over 17 years of experience and have taught over 1 million children.
- We have been commissioned by 5 councils to run various health programmes for multiple schools.
- We are a recognised supplier under the Healthy Schools London programme.
What is typically included on our school trips?
Our in-school workshops provide a brilliant hook for your health topic or Healthy Schools week, with our superb range of resources and activities that bring the curriculum to life for your pupils in a way that wouldn't be possible in the classroom. They are packed full of curriculum and fun! The hands-on, multi-sensory activities are accessible for all ages and abilities and have been carefully designed to meet and expand upon many objectives in the Science, PE and PSHE curriculum.
Hands-on Healthy Workshop
- Nursery-Year 6
- Differentiated for each year group
A one-hour hands-on session for up to 60 pupils that engages and motivates children as they gain new learning and embed existing knowledge on the topic of the human body and keeping healthy. Topics include: the human body, healthy eating, a balanced diet, nutritional values, importance of physical activity, teeth, hygiene, sleep, household safety, alcohol & drugs (Yr5/6 only), making informed choices and more...
Mental Health and Wellbeing Workshops
- Years 1-6
- Differentiated for Years 1&2, 3&4 and 5&6
This follows a similar pattern to our Healthy Workshop, a very hands-on and interactive session that engages children as they explore the various stations and activities. The stations are designed around the evidence-based '5 Ways to Wellbeing', which are the 5 keys that have been recognised to improve mental wellbeing in children and adults. We are really excited about how the teaching in this workshop will help you create a culture of wellbeing in your school.
- Nursery-Year 6
- Differentiated for EY/KS1 and KS2
Designed to give all pupils a full body workout at the same time as reinforcing the key messages of keeping healthy from the hands-on workshop. A fun-packed, non-stop, fast-paced session that motivates pupils to understand that keeping active is a vital part of staying healthy and can be a lot of fun.
Alcohol & Drug Awareness Workshop
- Years 5-8
- Differentiated for Years 5&6 and 7&8
A safe environment for pupils to begin considering this sensitive subject, which many schools and families find difficult to tackle. Our experienced coaches, with hands-on activities and anecdotal stories, will provide a comfortable and relaxed space in which to explore the issues surrounding drugs and alcohol, as well as the associated issues of peer pressure.

Testimonials
We consistently receive outstanding feedback from all the schools we visit. Here are a few, or you can see more on our website, a-life.co.uk:
“We had a fantastic visit from A-life today. They met all our requirements as a school to stay Covid-19 safe and complete the workshop in class bubbles. The girls enjoyed the workshops, and it gave them lots of ideas to begin their unit of work. (healthy choices). A great way for the children to work practically during the pandemic. The activities were fun, engaging and fitted well within our theme. It was just what the class needed after being sat in the classroom, for the majority of days in school. Professionally led, set up and safe. Thank you…5*" - Bedford Girls School
"Highest possible recommendation! 5*!" - St Stephen’s Primary School, Shepherd’s Bush
"I would highly recommend A- life. The interactive ‘healthy lifestyle’ workshop & fitness session were both of a high standard & managed to cover so many different curriculum objectives in a way we would not have been able to deliver as a school. A-life delivered a similar hands-on experience to the science museum. Well planned & resourced, inspiring, challenging and created enthusiasm amongst the pupils – Great price and no hassle to organise. I will definitely be booking A-life again! 5*." - Helen Rushton, Frith Manor Primary School
"A fantastic day - the resources and organisation were excellent. All children could participate fully. 5*" - Emmbrook Infant school, Wokingham
"A-life’s motivational genius has achieved more in a week than I have managed in 7 years and I am so thankful for it. Please let A-life know they have worked magic on my son. 5*." - Parent from St Andrews School, Eastbourne
"I am extremely impressed with the A-life coach’s organisational and delivery skills. All pitched at the correct level. The resources used are highly effective and fully engaging, where children have been extremely motivated. Teachers have been impressed and have decided to use some of the style of lesson to use in their own teaching for maths and history type lesson. Cannot express enough how impressed we are with the whole project. Thank you. 5*.” - Elsley Primary School, Wembley

Other Information
Covid-19-safe
When visiting schools, all our workshops will be run with Covid-19 measures in place to reduce the risk to the lowest practicable level, while still keeping the fun, hands-on elements.
Measures include:
- Just one coach visits the school (with a face covering to use where applicable)
- Hand sanitiser is provided for children to apply at the start and end of the workshop
- Children attending the workshop are kept within their bubbles (maximum number of children at each session varies depending on workshop)
- Option for children to carry out activities in smaller groups
- Children will be asked not to touch display boards
- For some activities fewer resources will be set out to allow for thorough cleaning between sessions
- A break has been introduced into our timetable between each workshop/bubble for enhanced cleaning of resources or for resources to be swapped for a fresh set.
- During the workshops the coach keeps within social distancing guidelines*
* Stay 2 metres apart from people you do not live with where possible, or 1 metre with extra precautions in place (such as wearing face coverings or increasing ventilation indoors).
- Our team all work independently, lowering any risk for workplace transmission.
