Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery offers a wide range of educational experiences for schools, including trips, outreach sessions and loan boxes, designed to engage students with history and science.
Our immersive educational experiences cater to students from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) through Key Stage 4, offering a diverse range of topics including: Romans, World War II, Victorians, Tudors, Anglo Saxons, Jurassic, Local History, Archaeology, Fossils and Evolution.
Trips range from 1 hour workshops to half day and full day experiences.

What makes us a great choice for educational visits


Peterborough Museum tells the story of Peterborough from 150 million years ago to the present.
Our learning programs enable students to gain a deeper understanding of the selected topic. Pupils get hands on with museum objects and immerse themselves in fun activities with them. Pupils discuss and present their ideas and the new knowledge they have learnt, enhancing and expanding their classroom learning.

What is typically included on your school trips


Our learning programmes support a range of subjects including history, maths, science, english, art, and design and technology. Pupils handle objects, meet characters from the past, explore our galleries and create something to take away with them.
Our immersive experiences cater to students from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) through to Key Stage 4. Some learning sessions can be tailored to meet the needs of the groups or adapted for different Key Stage groups.

Can’t come to Peterborough Museum? We also offer outreach sessions where our educational team will deliver the lesson in your school plus we can provide loan boxes or virtual sessions with additional resources so you can get hands-on with history in your school.
Group sizes


Maximum number per class is 30 children. Maximum three classes per visit.
Minimum staff to student ratio: 1 adult to 10

We supply all the necessary materials for our on-site activities. When the activities and visit date are agreed, a booking form and risk assessment are emailed to you.
Photography, filming & audio restrictions


Please feel at liberty to take photos or videos while visiting Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery. We encourage teachers to capture their classes engaging in activities and would love to see any moments you’d like to share.
