National Singing Programme – Enjoy a School Trip Singalong

With a School Trip Singalong, kids learn along the way!

There is no better way to enhance the learning power of the school trip than by bringing it to life with an educational singalong …

Sing Up, the National Singing Programme, has partnered with seven top school trip attractions across England to create special songs and downloadable activities that will engage pupils before, during and after a school trip.

Evidence shows that singing helps to improve concentration, social interaction and enhance memory, making it the ideal way to engage primary school children in learning in a fun, light-hearted way.

Some of the famous attractions taking part include Canterbury Cathedral, the Jorvik Viking Centre, the Eden Project, and the Roman Baths.  Sing Up has worked with each attraction to create special songs to be sung on the school bus and resources packed full of ideas to help teachers extend learning beyond the trip itself. Songs such as “Row in the Cathedral” – referring to the assassination of Saint Thomas Beckett at Canterbury Cathedrall in 1170 – have been developed to bring history to life on the bus ride there and back, ensuring that children learn and memorise along the way.

Even if you’re not visiting these venues, you can still use these resources in the classroom.  For further information visit: www.singup.org/singalong
