Howgills Barn Field Studies & Activity Based Residentials

Looking for Outdoor Curriculum Based residentials Cumbria

At Howgills Barn, we are delighted to be working in partnership with the Field Studies Council (FSC). The FSC is an environmental education charity that provide hands on outdoor learning directly related to the new national curriculum.  The FSC offer both fieldwork and adventurous activities at Howgills Barn for primary, secondary, A’Level, International Baccalaureate and University students.

Howgills Barn is situated in 5 acres and is perfectly located at the bottom of ‘The Howgill Fells’ enabling FSC Leaders to lead expeditions and activities, directly from the door of the Barn. Caoeing, boating and windsurfing can also be organised on nearby Killington Lake which is a 5 minute drive away.

“The environment is at the heart of everything we do. Visitors will see, explore and learn in a fun, engaging manner by immersing themselves in the natural world, taking in its sights, sounds and smells and getting their hands dirty”. Source: FSC

Dean Gibson School enjoyed a highly successful and productive stay at Howgills Barn. “ We felt looked after yet independent.  The space is ideal for groups of children; providing a safe, spacious and well equipped environment.  The two kitchens and large dining area enabled us to self-cater with ease.  The indoor classroom with ping pong table gave us somewhere to gather and relax, which proved invaluable when the weather was poor.  The affiliation with the Field Studies Council worked extremely well for us, providing well-planned, adventurous activities which were tailor-made to the needs of our group.  A great residential and will definitely be back!”

Special rates for Schools are £20 per student and teaching/support staff stay for free. Minimum of 12 students and a 2 night stay; either Monday & Tuesday or Wednesday & Thursday.
