Cliffords Tower

This is perhaps the most exceptional and fascinating landmark of York, providing more history, stories and myths than any other attraction. Located just across from the Castle Museum, Clifford’s tower is the only remaining piece of York Castle. This particular castle is home to a very important part of England’s history – the mass suicide and massacre of 1190. The free walking tours of the castle provide an in depth recollection of the events, in which tensions between the Jews and the Christians eventually led to the massacre of numerous Jews, with many opting for suicide and throwing themselves off the castle.
