Cogges Manor Farm in West Oxfordshire – Hands-on Learning Experience

If you’re looking for a unique, hands-on learning experience for your next school visit, Cogges Manor Farm in West Oxfordshire cover different age ranges from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to Key Stage 2. Cogges can offer a range of full or half-day sessions tailored to the needs of your school and the curriculum. Particularly popular at the moment is their ‘Wildlife and Growing’ session which aims to establish in children an understanding and appreciation of the natural environment around the, including the interdependence of all creatures and food chains. This is a fun, outdoor session which can be tailored to the different seasons of the year. Activities usually include, looking at bee hives and considering different pollinators, a wildlife walk seeking to find evidence of the different wildlife and their habitats at Cogges, making rot pot and discovering your own recipe for compost, planting a seed to take away and watch it grow and considering the importance of herbs and making herb butter which is one way to use herbs. It’s a fantastic session for all age groups as it can be tailored to EYFS, KS1 and KS2. It covers, Science and English but is a cross-curricular activity. The session can be easily adapted and Cogges can build in specific reference to the Victorians or other sessions that they cover for example Jack and the Beanstalk.
