What are our Workshops like?

Workshops are offered both on-site at the Science Centre and also as outreach activities in schools. A mobile planetarium is offered to bring the 360o experience into schools.

Winchester Science Centre aims to Spark Curiosity by providing exciting and thought-provoking activities for school children. Workshops are designed to fit with the curriculum, while incorporating demonstrations and activities that are unlikely to be possible in schools.

All activities are developed with the oversight of the Head of Education and presented by professional Science Communicators, with a passion for education and inspiration. The team includes ex-teachers and scientists who work together to ensure that every workshop has appropriate, accurate and engaging content.

We have a new and improved planetarium and workshop offer for 2017, we hope you like it! And do let us know if there is anything you’d like us to offer which isn’t currently available.

The mobile planetarium is accessible for wheelchair users.

What makes us a great choice?

Winchester Science Centre is an educational charity established in 1985 with learning at the centre of all its activities. The current buildings opened in 2002 with the planetarium being installed in 2008.

Visitor income and other funding streams is use to subsidise activities for schools, offering excellent value. The outreach and in-house offer are matched, with the same staff working both on and off-site, ensuring high quality of equipment, programmes and delivery.

Please extend my thanks to your team for their fabulous STEM work, another fantastic event! Noadswood School, Dibden Purley

I just wanted to pass on my thanks for the super planetarium visit we had today. The presenter was brilliant and he pitched the show perfectly for the age of the children. He was kind and friendly and we really felt we got our money's worth [ …] The children were completely in awe when in the planetarium and it was a really fantastic to be able to have that sort of facility brought into school.
