What makes us a great choice?
The Old School House is in a fantastic location for school visits. The centre is in the old village primary school now converted into residential accommodation for schools.
The village of Robin Hoods Bay dates back to and beyond Viking times with a history of fishing and smuggling. The narrow cobbled pedestrian streets, lined by listed buildings dating from the 17th and 18th century, are a far cry from the urban areas most of our schools come from. We are just 2 minutes walk from the village centre and the beach.
Activities available in the village or locally for primary schools include, rock pooling, fossil hunting, walks of varying length along the coastal path or disused railway line, Robin Hoods Bay museum, canoeing, orienteering, Whitby Abbey, boat trips from Whitby, the Sealife centre in Scarborough and more. Evening activities include town trails, smuggling talks, a magic lantern show and ghost walks.
The location and diversity of Robin Hoods Bay makes it ideal for secondary school groups for geography and biology field trips. It is particularly suited for coastal processes and coastal erosion for geographers and rock pool ecology and diversity/density and moorland habitats and ecology for biologists.
