Barley Hall is a medieval townhouse, once home to the Lord Mayor of York. Located on the doorstep of York Minster, the building has been restored to its former glory.

Barley Hall can accommodate groups between 15-35 people, including teachers/leaders. Larger groups can be split down into multiple time-slots.

Pricing Information

Educational visits to Barley Hall cost £3.50 per child with a free teacher/leader for every six children. Additional teachers, above the 1:6 ratio cost £3.80 each. This includes entry to the Hall and access to the lunch facilities (if booked alongside your visit).

If you want to visit another one of our attractions as part of your visit, for example JORVIK Viking Centre, joint visits cost £6.50 per child with a free teacher/leader for every six children. Additional teachers, above the 1:6 ratio cost £7.50 each.

Minimum group size is 15 people, including teachers/leaders.

Clothing Requirements

No specific clothing is required for your visit. Apart from travel time between the city’s coach parks and our other attractions, your visit is all indoors.

Accessibility & Disabled Facilities

Unfortunately due to the historic nature of the building, Barley Hall is not fully accessible. Wheelchair users can access the ground floors of the building but ramps are required between the thresholds of the rooms.

We are open every day of the year except for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
