What we offer on a school trip
Manor House Activity and Development Centre, based in St Issey near Padstow in North Cornwall, is a Residential Outdoor Activity Centre of outstanding quality. It offers exhilarating Outdoor Activities and Field Study Trips to suit all age groups. School Groups have been visiting the Manor House for more than 20 years and recent investment in the house and equipment has brought many of the activities in house, resulting in vastly improved quality of each session, far exceeding previous experiences and those gained at other Centres throughout the UK. One of the most exciting of the activities is Sea Cliff Climbing at a secluded cove on the North Cornish Coast which cannot be beaten! Most School Group Activity Holidays also include surfing or body boarding, kayaking or canoeing, off road cycling along with coastal and moorland walks. Visits to places of educational value can also be arranged, perhaps to Eden Project or Blue Reef Aquarium. During the Spring, Summer and Autumn, Schools visit the centre to complete field study, participate in exciting activity courses or simply use the centre as a base for self-study or a holiday. In brief, The Manor House has five multi-bedded rooms with four delightful twin-bedded rooms for accompanying staff, a superbly comfortable lounge, two dining rooms and a particularly warm and inviting Farmhouse kitchen where guests often mingle whilst helping themselves to readily available free hot drinks. The Manor House also offers a luxurious Spa Pool for the sole use of our adult guests, which is surrounded by low level lighting on the decking! Delicious Home Cooked meals are provided each day which cater for all special dietary requirements. Two course dinners are offered with ample amounts for second helpings, as appetites are often improved following a day in the outdoors! Continental breakfasts are provided with tonnes of cereal and toast along with orange juice, tea and coffee. Picnic lunches are supplied each day which again cater for special dietary needs and to ensure that the lunches are just what you fancy – loads of sandwich fillings are provided for you to select your own individual sandwiches each day from the lunch buffet. Cold drinks are also available throughout the day along with a selection of fresh fruit. Hot drinks are also provided free of charge at The Manor House throughout your stay. There are staff available on site throughout the night and the house has a security check last thing in the evening to ensure the safety and security of the residential group. Number locks are used upon the main entrance/exit for added security. Information and suggested worksheets can be provided in advance of visits if required, which could include Town Studies, Town Economy and Tourism, Rock Pool / Beach Study and Eden Project Workshops. The Manor House Worksheets have been developed by Teachers and Marine specialists and worksheets for Eden Workshops Visits have been developed by the Eden Educational Team. Relevant Risk Assessments are provided in advance of the visit to help the leader prepare the necessary paperwork prior to travel. Leaders may also visit the centre for a pre planning visit by prior arrangement. Each trip is tailored to exactly meet the need of the group, whether they are purely residential or include the field study or adventurous activities. Adults are also catered for, maybe a Hen Activity Weekend, when the school groups have gone home! Hen weekends can include great dinner parties, fun outdoor activities and the use of the Spa Pool along with holistic therapies like back, neck and shoulder massages or reflexology and chauffeured transport into Newquay for the night clubs on Saturday night. Family Activity Holidays also enjoy a mixture of Adventurous Outdoor Activities and may also include visits to Gardens and Vineyards for the adults, whilst the children are being looked after at Creally Adventure Park! The Winter provides the perfect backdrop for the Manor House to train enthusiastic young instructors wishing to embark on a career in the outdoors. An intensive training course over sixteen weeks putting instructors through Climbing, Mountain Leader, Kayaking and Beach lifeguard qualifications alongside many soft skills, provides them with a solid foundation of skills making them far more attractive to potential employers. All in all the Manor House sets new standards in the Outdoor Industry providing quality experiences to a wide variety of organizations and individual clients alike.
