What we offer

Cumulus Coast adventure residential is the perfect choice for a school trip or leavers’ camp. Fun and educational the 3, 4 or 5 day programmes encourage students to enjoy and explore the great outdoors in stunning surroundings.

Set in a secluded camp on the edge of Poole Harbour, with 24 hour on-site pastoral care, each programme combines traditional bushcraft workshops with adventurous activities, from coasteering to kayaking and abseiling down sea cliffs. As a partner to the Jurassic Coast Trust we are now also able to offer bespoke educational sessions to incorporate added depth to your programme of activities into your school’s programme.

  • Camp-craft: Students will work through workshops scenarios which cover a range of Bushcraft skills. Tailored to meet the age and abilities of the group, these workshops are designed to enhance their skills.
  • Coasteering: An action-packed adventure along the world famous Jurassic Coastline, coasteering takes students on an exploration of caves, rock pools and cliffs. The activity includes swimming, scrambling and cliff jumping.
  • Dorset Waterpark: Dorset Waterpark is a huge Woodland Waterpark spread over two lakes overlooking Corfe Castle. Each lake features different challenges for you to tackle.
  • Kayaking: The students will have a lot of fun, learning how to control their kayaks and developing confidence in the water through basic paddle strokes and water safety techniques.
  • Mackerel Fishing: Students will be taken along the coast to the best fishing spots with a friendly skipper who will show them the ropes and explain the fishing technique. Hopefully bringing back lots of Mackerel for the camp fire!
  • Rock Climbing & Abseiling: The students will learn how to fit a climbing harness, tie basic climbing knots and enjoy sea cliff climbing.
  • In-camp entertainment: The students will work in their teams to compete in a series of fun challenges, putting their problem-solving skills to the test

Swanage and Purbeck lie on the south coast of Dorset and have stunning landscapes in all seasons.

The area is the eastern gateway to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site - walk along the South West Coast Path and pass the magnificent Old Harry Rocks, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Being surrounded on three sides by sea water, coastal Purbeck boasts some of the best sea views and spectacular scenery along the whole of the south coast.

Due to the outstanding geology and palaeontology, the Dorset (and East Devon) coastline has been listed as a Natural World Heritage Site and Jurassic Coastline. Above Swanage to the south lies Durlston Country Park, 263 acres of beautiful countryside overlooking Purbeck's Marine Research Area and from where you can walk round The Lighthouse and further along the South West Coast Path to Dancing Ledge, Winspit, Seacombe and St Aldhems Head. All of these have footpath routes back inland to Langton Matravers, Worth Matravers and Kingston.

Standing in the heart of Purbeck is the picturesque village of Corfe with its dramatic ruins of a medieval castle that commands the strategic gap in the Purbeck Ridge. Now run by the National Trust, the castle, once the most fortified in all England, was systematically destroyed after the Civil War. From this vantage point, you can enjoy stunning views across the Purbeck landscape to the sea.

“The Cumulus Coast programme was very well planned and expertly delivered. The students really benefited from the knowledge and expertise of the staff and instructors which ensured they achieved the very best they could while thoroughly enjoying an exceptional experience.”

“Excellent group leader; very professional, helpful and brilliant with the students. The variety of activities during the week was great and really enjoyed by everyone. All campsite staff to management and activity staff are all extremely helpful, brilliant with the students and clearly love their jobs which makes all a very positive experience. Thank you!”

“Once again, thanks so much for last week, the pupils and staff had a superb time. Indeed, all the staff who have been involved in previous residential trips agree that this was by far the best they have been involved in. Our school has just become an academy and is going through major changes in the leadership. It is only because of this that, at the present time, I am unable to book for next year.

Thanks again for everything and I have my fingers crossed for next year (please feel free to use me as a reference for other schools).”

“We thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and greatly appreciated the time that you and the rest of the team took in organising such a fantastic weekend. I was impressed with the coasteering, in particular the professionalism of the staff and their ability to control and care for the boys in some rather challenging conditions. The ratios used were ideal; the use of the send and receive strategy to coordinate the boys entering into the water was reassuring and, I thought, delivered exceptionally well by the staff team. I would not want to run a coasteering trip for this age group of boys in the future if you did not insist on this supervision strategy. I was also impressed with the manner that your staff engaged with our boys to create a fun, challenging and supportive environment.”

“Cumulus Outdoors ran a week long canoe and camp expedition along the River Wye for us last year and will be doing the same this year. The organisation and equipment was second to none and the group were in the very capable hands of the two professional guides. I would have no hesitation in recommending them, we’re now planning an additional Mountain Expedition and a Coastal Programme with Cumulus.”

“Thanks for a brilliant week with Cumulus, the group were great, the activity instructors were brilliant and the activities were awesome! So thank you very much.”

Brendan Banfield-Coombs

“Really great week, every activity was well organised and a combination of encouragement and proper instruction gives you the confidence to really push your own boundaries. The wide range of activities were all very well equipped and were run by professional instructors. The enthusiasm and commitment from the instructors also makes the trip much more enjoyable and fulfilling.”

James, Hereford

“Thank you so much for providing us with such a fantastic day!  Russell and the team were brilliant and by the end of the day even the most entrenched ‘haters’ of outdoor activities actually admitted that it had been fun. It was so interesting watching the different ways in which the teams approached the tasks, the leadership and the teamwork (or not, on occasion!) and some brilliant challenges!”
