What we offer

Over the years, we have produced and nurtured some of the UK's most prolific visionaries, designers and ceramicists. We have played an important role in the art and design movements throughout the last century which continues in the twenty first century. Poole Pottery has become renowned for excellence in design and commitment to developing innovative collections. Over our long and successful history we have created work for many of the finest retailers and organisations throughout the world.

Your school can visit the working studio and see the throwers, artists and designers at work. See free demonstrations of pot throwing (by prior arrangement) and find out how Poole Pottery is made.

Read about the history and heritage and see the largest collection of Poole Pottery in the world.

Feel inspired? Have a go at painting your own masterpiece in the Paint a Pot studio on the first floor. Choose from a wide selection of pieces, from plates, bowls and mugs to ornaments, picture frames and money boxes. Prices start at £7. Your item will be glazed and fired in the Poole Pottery kilns and ready for collection in a few days (postage can also be arranged). Paint a Pot is ideal for parties and group bookings, with discounted rates for groups of 10 or more.

What makes us a great choice?

We are a great destination for educational visits as children are able to see a real working studio pottery and there are not many left in the UK now. They can see the process from clay to pot which is in line with how materials change. They can see skilled artists at work. Then there is also the opportunity to decorate your own masterpiece.

Group Sizes Catered For

We can cater for large groups although we recommend splitting in to groups of about 20 for the demonstration to ensure that all can see the potter at work.

Photography, Filming & Audio Restrictions

We do not allow any recording of any kind in the pottery. Teachers can photograph the children in Paint a Pot if they are authorised to do so.

Risk Assessment Details

We have risk assessments available for both Paint a Pot and pottery throwing demonstrations and schools are able to request a visit and do their own risk assessments before arranging the visit.
