What makes us a great choice?
A group visit Pelham provides an ideal opportunity to explore and investigate the natural environment of North Essex. The centre is situated in educational nature reserves, with a range of well managed habitats from river and ponds to meadows and woodland. Educational programmes are continually being developed for schools, special interest groups and the local community. School courses from foundation stage to A level are tailored to individual needs and are run by experienced and qualified centre teachers.
Pelham welcomes groups from primary, secondary and special schools, from within Essex and beyond. Courses are designed to support visits from Foundation Stage to A level, along with courses for teachers and weekend natural history courses for adults. While essentially non-residential, an increasing number of schools are arranging to stay for two or more days.
Secondary schools appreciate the quality of the field courses the centre offers in Biology and Geography. Many A level groups undertake coursework projects with advice from experienced centre staff. For primary and special schools, courses are designed in consultation with teachers to fit into National Curriculum programmes of study in science and geography but can include aspects of numeracy, literacy, art and ICT. A visit is also an opportunity to introduce Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), which is now part of the National Curriculum.
