What we offer

Lambourne End Centre for outdoor learning is passionate about developing people. Situated just 2 miles from greater London yet located in 54 acres of Essex countryside, we use our unique blend of outdoor activity adventure equipment, state-of-the-art farm education centre and dedicated environmental and conservation areas to provide high-quality personal development experiences.

This venue has LOtC quality Badge

Our fantastic activities include a climbing wall, swimming pool, ropes course and caving system as well as environmental and farm education, learning about pond dipping, horticulture and our animals.

The Centre also boasts excellent (newly refurbished) dormitory accommodation, camping areas, dining, meeting and lounge facilities.

In a safe, welcoming, yet alternative environment we will encourage people to stay healthy, to have fun learning and to experience a sense of achievement.

Although we are situated just 10 minutes from Hainault tube station, the Centre is not served by public transport. Please contact us for advice and assistance.

Lost property:

We are unable to provide insurance for personal accidents, damage to cars or theft of any personal equipment or effects and we advise groups/individuals to take out their own insurance.

Please note it is your own responsibility to secure the rooms you occupy during your stay.

Residential groups:

For the residential block, please ensure your group members bring suitable outdoor clothing, self catering food and drink, sleeping bags and towels. We can provide bedding at an additional cost. Please bring your own washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets etc. We have laundry facilities on site but again please bring washing powder etc as we are unable to provide this.

Smoking is not permitted in any of the buildings.

Group Supervision/Responsibility/Accountability rests with your workers accompanying your group unless a member of staff has been previously booked to facilitate activity sessions. Please therefore ensure adequate supervision of your group members at all times. Please note it is also your responsibility to ensure your workers are CRB checked.

What makes us a great choice?

With the expertise of our staff and fantastic resources available, we can provide tailor made days, running a variety of activities combined into programmes that will achieve the required outcomes for your group and to each individual in an inclusive way. We will always work in consultation with the group leader to form the most appropriate learning programme for you.

Groups can visit the site for just one session, half a day or a whole day experiencing the outdoors in a new and exciting way with one or a combination of activities. We also offer a tailor made team challenge day with team building and team challenge activities for the whole group to get involved and work together!

Our fantastic dormitory accommodation can sleep up to 36 people providing onsite facilities for your group to stay with us for an extended visit at the Centre. This includes a kitchen, dining and lounge area for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Group Sizes Catered For

We can cater for up to 180 people for our team challenge days. For our adventurous activities students work in groups of 12 including the group leader (groups of 35 for the swimming pool and camp fire sessions) and group size of 15 for our farm education activities.

Materials, Resources & Information Provided

Our 10 farm and environmental programmes have teachers packs for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 which help link them into schemes of work. They include a pre visit, visit and post visit lesson plan, which are supported by Powerpoint presentations, recording sheets, risk assessments and follow up suggestions. (These are all made available to teachers once a booking is confirmed, prior to a visit.)

The Centre also runs accredited training for Year 10 and 11 students based on personal and social development, animal care and sport and leisure. All students build up a portfolio of evidence that will enable them to complete a variety of courses registered on the QCF.

Photography, Filming & Audio Restrictions

Although we suggest leaving personal and electronic equipment at home, we love photos! There are no copy write restrictions, but we recommend that everybody in your group is aware that photos, video or audio footage will be taken and have agreed to it being used. We may also take some photographs for our own records and publicity such as the website, newsletters etc for which your permission is required.

Risk Assessment Details

We undertake risk assessments for all of our activities and these can be made available to teachers but they then must accept shared liability. We therefore strongly advise and welcome group leaders to visit the Centre before booking to get a feel for our activities and conduct their own risk assessment relating the Centre to the needs of their group and travelling to the Centre.
