What we offer
Govilon Activity Centre is a non-profit Outdoor Education Centre in South Wales. We have been operating since 1971.
Every programme is bespoke and nothing is off the shelf?. However, if you would prefer us to make suggestions for you, we are very happy to do so. The range of activities we offer includes: - rock climbing, abseiling, caving, gorge walking/canyoning, canoeing, hill walking, problem solving/ teambuilding, bush craft and archery.
We are a non-profit, charitable trust; owned and maintained by Kettering Old Grammar School Foundation. More information about the Foundation can be found here - http://www.kogsf.org.uk/
What makes us a great choice?
Ideally-located on the Eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, Govilon boasts beautiful views and easy access to some of the most naturally-stunning areas in the UK.
All our programmes utilize natural environments, as opposed to manmade/artificial climbing walls, caves and suchlike.
The Centre offers an extremely relaxed, homely environment and nothing is too much trouble. We treat our visitors as guests and are very passionate about delivery a highly-satisfactory experience.
Given that we are owned by a Charitable Trust, our rates are very often cheaper than your average provider. Additionally, subsidies are sometimes available to help support those from lower-income backgrounds.
Accreditation and Awards
We hold an AALA license and have done for many years.
Our LOtC badge is pending.
What is typically included?
Each trip is tailored to match the needs of the group. We don?t offer any off the shelf? packages. However, we are happy to make suggestions and recommendations based on the information we are provided with. Often, we will have a discussion with the trip organizer to determine the key objectives and/or learning outcomes. We can then collectively decide upon the most suitable programme options. In each instance, the key aim is to link the experience at Govilon back to the classroom/place of work, and to ensure the learning doesn?t stop when the programme ends. There are various ways we can quantify the learning and we can provide action plans at the end of the programme.

Education Officer Information

Cost varies, depending on group size and time of year. Typically, the rate is £55 - £60 per child/p>er night but this could be less, depending on a number of different factors. Being a non-profit organization, we are always willing to discuss the cost and are committed to making our programmes as accessible as possible for children and their families. Accompanying staff are usually free of charge.
The Centre has an extensive equipment store, so there is no requirement for participants to bring or purchase anything specific. A list of the everyday items of clothing and toiletries needed is available on our website.
First Aid Information
All members of staff are First Aid trained and First Aid kits are carried by all Instructors. There are also several First Aid stations throughout the Centre.
We have a very spacious dining/common room, where meals are usually eaten. We encourage children to sit at the table together and interact with each other over meal times. Mobile phones and television are not permitted during meal times, as this is a civilized time of the day when quiet conversation takes place. Often, it is an opportunity for children and peers to get to know each other better, and to discuss their experiences here at Govilon. This can become a form of self-reflection and evaluation, leading into the end-of-course debrief on the final day of the programme.
Accessibility & Disabled Facilities
Govilon is equipped with access and provisions for those with mobility problems and disabilities.
Opening Hours & Information
We run courses all year round, other than the Christmas period. Our office is open Monday - Friday, from 9am to 5:30pm. However, our dedicated team often pick-up emails during evenings and weekends too.
