What we offer

Discover what life was like on board the legendary sailing ship Cutty Sark, the world's sole surviving tea clipper, and fastest ship of her time - now an award-winning visitor attraction. This 19th-century sailing ship has been raised over three metres allowing you the jaw-dropping experience of walking directly underneath.

Bring your class on board Cutty Sark, the world's last surviving Victorian tea clipper, to experience the great age of sail.

School visits are warmly welcomed to the ship; we offer an exciting programme of curriculum-linked workshops for Foundation Stage to Key Stage 3, led by experienced facilitators. All workshops include opportunities to explore the ship and discover what life was like on board. Alternatively, you can make a self-directed trip allowing you to tailor your visit to the needs of your class, free workshops with suggested activities can be found on our website.

Risk Assessment Details

Teachers who have booked a session are offered a free pre-visit to Cutty Sark so that they can carry out a risk assessment and orientate themselves before bringing a class on board.

Education Officer Information

Yes, Cutty Sark employs a learning manager and a learning officer. However, enquiries and bookings need to be made to our bookings team in the first instance.

Pricing Information

School bookings for Cutty Sark are available during term-time, to school groups studying the UK National Curriculum. Pre-booking is essential. Bookings are limited to one group (maximum 30 children) at a time, subject to availability.

Self-directed visits:£90 for up to 30 children, £45 for up to 15 children

Facilitated visits: £140 for up to 30 children, £95 for up to 15 children*

*Minimum group sizes may apply.

Cutty Sark Bursaries

We are pleased to offer a limited number of bursaries (4 per term) for our facilitated workshops. Bursaries are available to schools in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and neighbouring boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Newham, Barking and Dagenham, Bexley, Bromley and Lewisham.

To be eligible, your school must have over 25% of children entitled to free school meals. Applications are limited to one group of 30 children per school.

Clothing Requirements

The main deck of the ship is not under cover; therefore children and supervising adults should come suitably dressed for the time of year that they visit. No special clothing is required but please wear sensible shoes.

First Aid Information

We have qualified first aiders on-site.

Available Facilities

We have a cafe which sells snacks, drinks, sandwiches and cakes. Our shop has a small selection of souvenir items that can be bought for between 75p - £5. At busy times we may have to limit the amount of children in the shop at any one time.

Accessibility & Disabled Facilities

Each level of the ship is accessible by lift and we have accessible toilets. We ask that schools let us know in advance about any special educational or access needs that pupils may have so that we can adjust workshops if required.

Opening Hours & Information

We offer facilitated school sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and these have to be booked into designated time slots.

Self-directed visits can be booked on a Monday or a Friday between 10am-5pm

Cutty Sark's Opening times:

Monday-Sunday, 10.00-17.00. Easter extended opening: open till 18.00, 25-30 March and 2-7 April. Closed 24-26 December.
