What we offer

BECKs Training offers outdoor activity and team development residentials at the Edwardian Deneholme Country House. We are situated at the edge of the village of year (2009) Allendale Town on the fringes of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty: The North Pennines and only a short drive from Hadrian's Wall.

Our activity programs are tailor made to each school's needs and can range from being very physically challenging and full on to being more mentally challenging and team orientated with workshops around teamwork and personal development.

Please do not hesitate to send us a quick email with your requirements (dates, group size, objective, transport situation and age group) and we are more than happy to provide a personalized quote, free of charge, within two working days, but usually on the same day. If you prefer to have a chat, please call our office on 01434 618579.

What makes us a great choice?

Our school and youth groups value the exclusive use of the house and grounds: no other youth or school groups are on site during your stay at Deneholme.

We specialize in team building and personal development of the students, adapting management training courses and corporate challenges to the appropriate age group, in order to improve trust, communication, confidence, morale and motivation, independence and an increased sense of responsibility for own actions.

We use outdoor activities to add interest and physical activities to our Special Agent Challenge, Survival of All, Mirror Image Treasure Hunt and Outdoor Activity Cluedo.

Our activities are always delivered by personal development trainers, rather than instructors. We coach the children and young people through the activities, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding and improving skills in the outdoor as well as in a team environment.

Our venue, Deneholme, is a lot more comfortable than the usual outdoor centre. It is also used for wedding receptions and corporate groups, and we find giving a beautiful and comfortable home to young people during their stay improves behavior and staff as well as children relax into the homely feel Deneholme offers.

Our food is freshly cooked on site by our own chef and can be adapted to the children's wishes - this includes full English breakfasts and delicious home cooked lunches too.

Finally, teachers and support staff always comment on the high level of engagement students experience during their stay with us. Activities are highly motivational and run from after breakfast until nearly bed time - if this is what the staff would like us to do.

Evening activities can include night walks with flasks and biscuits to the top of the fells next door, outdoor bonfires with guitar songs and grilled marshmallows or the BECKs RACE indoor paper bridge and remote controlled car race set up in our large ball room.

What is typically included?

We do tailor each visit according to the requirement of the individual school and their desired outcomes of the residential.

This can include a number of qualification (National Navigation Award, Paddle Power Certification, John Muir Award, Bikeability Award etc.) or be more centered around fully action filled days and evening with a huge number of activities to take part in or it can be based around the team orientation and personal development of students in a team environment.

We can include the following traditional outdoor activities into our residential programs:
Canoeing, abseiling, rock climbing, raft building, bridge building, taralyan traverse, ghyll scrambling, gorge walking, waterfall jumping, fell walking, treasure hunting, caving, mining, mountain biking, weaseling, orienteering and many more - there are also a huge number of corporate team challenges which we have adapted for school groups.

Our minimum group size is 15 and we can cater for up to 30 students plus 3-4 staff.
