What we offer on our educational learning school trip
We are the UK’s only crocodile zoo, with its largest crocodile collection – one of the best collections in Europe. Our zoo is aimed at raising awareness for these amazing animals, and contributing to conservation projects around the world.
As one of the most unique zoo’s in the UK, we have an amazing wildlife classroom? to help bring the curriculum to life. Since we are a zoo, we can cater for sessions not only on biology, but also business studies, physics, chemistry and tourism. Our daily talks and feeding demonstrations are available to school groups, as well as our tailor-made workshops and guided tours.
What makes us a great choice for education
We emphasize fun and learning and are passionate about crocodiles and alligators. We feature a full schedule of talks and feeding demonstrations throughout the day, and a dedicated Education Team to guide you through the visit.
Our Workshops are hands-on fun sessions that include the chance to touch a live crocodile or alligator!
We have the LOtC Quality Badge, are members of the International Zoo Educators Association, and are DBS checked.
We like to make learning fun. One of the things that sets us apart is the sense of fun we infuse our workshops with.
A very general visit would look something like this:
– Greeted upon arrival and escorted to the Education Room
– Our staff will then brief the group about the zoo and where toilets, hand-washing facilities, cafe, etc, are located and allow a short break for toilet use before the workshop
– We would present our workshop session, lasting for 45-60mins
– Workshop sessions include hands-on experience for the students with live reptiles, including a crocodile or an alligator
– The Education Room remains available for use by the group at lunch time
– Either a guided or escorted tour of the zoo
– Time for viewing crocodile feeding sessions is scheduled
The Workshop sessions are ideally pre-arranged with the teachers. We have some set curriculum-based workshops that are available, or we will tailor the session to suit the class. We want to reinforce the components of the curriculum under study at school.
All age groups from Foundation to University are welcomed. We pitch our sessions appropriately, and we encourage the students to consider some practical implications of some of the facts we present.

I took my class of Year 1 children here, they had the most fantastic time. The staff ensured that our visit went smoothly and Laura (education lady) did the most interesting talk, that kept all the children captivated! The children adored the meerkats and otters as well as the crocodiles. The children had a brilliant time and learnt so much at the same time, The talks were appropriately levelled, paced and were well controlled despite high levels of excitement, a thoroughly enjoyable and educational experience for all involved and I shall have no hesitation in recommending you and your wonderful creatures to other schools
