We are fully accessible site with adapted facilities and specialised equipment, to ensure all students and educational groups have the same opportunities.

What does your accommodation or residential centre offer school trip


Set in 65 acres of picturesque landscape, Avon Tyrrell has a wide range of accommodation options and facilities to support residential visits and school trips.
Manor House: Our Grade I listed calendar house offers full board accommodation in dormitory style bedrooms and combines historic charm with modern facilities such as key coded locks, Wi-Fi and separate leaders rooms. There is a communal space downstairs for free time activities with a pool table and table football as well as a lounge with TV and DVD player.
Forest Lodges: Split your group between 7 self contained lodges for a more independent experience, with each lodge equipped with bathrooms, lounge/dining space and full equipped kitchens. If you would prefer to have us cater for your group, we can accommodate for this as well on either a full board or half board basis.
Tented Camps/Camping: During the Summer months, we can provide tented camps outside for those wishing to sleep out under the stars for the full outdoor experience. Troop tents and leaders tents will be provided with roll mats/camp beds, access to a fridge, electric and tea/coffee facilities.
Our Customer Experience Team are on hand to support you throughout your visit and will check in with you daily and we have emergency on call staff available overnight when the offices are closed.

We have so many activities available on site and split them into 4 different types:
Experience: Abseiling, Archery, Climbing, High Ropes (Crate stacking, high all aboard, leap of faith, vertical play plen), Kayaking and Sit on top kayak, Mountain Biking, Paddleboarding, Raft Building, Tree Climbing, Tree Top Trail and Zip Wire.
Learn: Animal Tracks, Art in the Environment, Bushcraft, Challenge Course, Discovery Walk, Icebreakers, Low Ropes, Minibeasts, Navigation, Pedalo, Pioneering, Pond Dipping, Problem Solving, Shelter Building and Trust Walk.
Develop: Adventure Trail, Bottle Rockets, Campfire, Disco, Egg Drop, Geocaching, Night Orienteering, Night Walk and Orienteering.
Self Guided activities: Access to the New Forest National Park, Adventure Trail, Art in the environment, Bike hire and trails, Campfire, Geocaching, Orienteering, Off-site walks Outdoor Table Tennis, Frisbee Golf, Giant Chess, Sports Court and Games Court.
Group Sizes


We can accommodate for large groups across the site, with various accommodation options.
- Manor House: Sleeps 20-109 people
- Forest Lodges: Sleeps 64 people across 7 lodges
- Tented Camping: We can comfortably provide tents for groups of approximately 150 people plus leaders (subject to availability) and can offer additional space for those looking to bring their own tents.
We can mix accommodation options for you for groups exceeding numbers for each space or dependent on availability so please do get in touch to discuss requirements.
Room types, sizes


The Grade I listed manor house can accommodate up to 109 people in dormitory style rooms of 2- 10 beds. There is ample space in each room for luggage and access to communal bathrooms on each floor. Separate leader rooms are available with TV’s and tea/coffee making facilities plus we have a couple of en suites available too. The house is fully accessible with wet rooms, wide access doors and a lift.
The Forest lodges can accommodate up to 62 across 7 x individual lodges, sleeping between 6-14 people. Equipped with kitchen, lounge and dining spaces plus bathrooms, the lodges are great for those looking for more independence. Lodges are accessible with ramp access to most units and the larger lodges have space for groups to gather in the evenings. Rooms sleep either 2 or 4 people in twin beds or bunk beds.
Each booking is dealt with individually, and we can provide for all age groups and budgets.
Photography, Filming & Audio Restrictions


We would encourage guests to record their experiences, but would ask that any pictures, video or audio only be taken of their own group or the site.
We may ask groups for photo permissions so we can take some pictures to support our marketing efforts, and this will be agreed in advance with groups

For any self guided activities, we ask that groups write their own risk assessment, however we are available to support with this if needed.
A fire drill is included for all school visits on arrival day.

First Aid


All of our delivery staff, duty managers, on call staff and most office staff are first aid trained and we have access to a defib and oxygen on site.
Available Facilities


We have a range of facilities and services available on site to ensure you have a great stay with us.
Depending on your accommodation choice, we have different facilities available:
For those staying in the main house: You will have access to the dining room for meals, a large hall space with pool table and table football, drawing room with TV and DVD facilities and a lounge space for leaders. For those staying on the middle floor, there is also a library area with TV as an extra break out space.
For those staying in the lodges and camping: You will have access to the dining room in the main house for meals.
We have a training room and strawbale classroom available as an additional meeting space and a large marquee for teaching and socialising.
All guests have access to FREE W-Fi for internet access. There is a small shop in reception where guests can buy snacks, refreshments, toys and souvenirs. You can also buy basic amenities if anything has been forgotten and we have plenty of Avon Tyrrell branded products to remind you of your visit.
A sports court and games area is available outside and we also have giant chess and plenty of outdoor space for games.
Catering Options


Whether you are visiting for the day or with us for a residential, we can cater for your group if you are looking for part board, full board or self-catering.

- Hot Lunch/Packed Lunch (Available for those visiting for the day)
Full board catering means you can sit back and relax as your groups needs are fully catered for. Enjoy three cooked meals with a hot cooked breakfast, lunch, and dinner to help you refuel with salad and fruit available at every meal as well as tea and coffee at hand, throughout your stay.
Part Board catering can be what you need, so if you would prefer us to cover breakfast and lunch so you can get the group together and make dinner, or breakfast and dinner, we can do whatever is needed to make your stay easier.
Hot lunches or packed lunches can also be provided for those visiting for the day or if your group is looking to head off site and explore the New Forest. We also have plenty of space to enjoy a picnic lunch if you would prefer to bring your own.
We are able to cater for most dietary requirements so whether you are Gluten Free, Vegan or Halal, we have your groups needs covered.
The 14 Allergens are listed for all meals and displayed at point of service so if you have any questions, our friendly chefs are on hand to help you make the right choice.
Accessibility & Disabled Facilities


Avon Tyrrell is a fully accessible site with adapted facilities and specialised equipment, to ensure all guests have the same opportunities.
The main house has wide access doors, wheelchair ramps and a lift and we have additional equipment including shower trolleys and hoists.
An accessible pathway leads down to the lake where our Boathouse holds a disabled wet room and toilet facility. Hoists can be fitted at the lake and extra harnessing equipment is available for the at height activities. We also have a range of all-terrain wheelchairs and inclusion bikes for easy access around the site.

Having run a number of weekends specifically for the disability community, we have the knowledge and expertise to work with a variety of disabilities and give everyone the same opportunities to experience, learn and develop.
