What we offer on a school trip
Set in the center of the Snowdonia National Park, The Swallow Falls independent hostel is in the ideal location for your adventure activity programme in North Wales. The hostel was formally with the YHA but has now become independently owned by the Swallow Falls Hotel Complex so has now gained access to all the hotels additional resources.
There is access to a quiet room for pupils who just want to enjoy some time to themselves. There is a maximum 90 beds if the hotel complex is utilised as well, the smaller separate annex has 36 beds. The annex accommodation is on one floor in a building separate to the main hotel complex, the building itself can be secured separately to the hotel complex if there are two or more schools in at a time. Outside is a spacious grass area and mature woodland. All meals are catered for in the central kitchen by professional cooks. All dietary needs can be catered for. There are 2 relaxing lounges for communal games, socialisation and meetings. Staying at the bunk House now gives you access to a classroom, teachers kitchen and common room. You may also choose to treat yourself to a meal in the hotel from their extensive A La Carte menu. There is plenty of outside space including a games area and camp site should you choose to come camping. Just across the road are the famous Swallow Falls which can make a pleasant evening self-lead activity. Next door to The Swallow Falls Complex is a country park also ideal for self-lead evening activities such as nature walks and ball games. The famous medieval Conwy Castle is only a short mini bus trip from here so if you would like a more relaxing day trips can be arranged to the castle with a guided walk around the historic town.
Although this is an ideal location for mountain lead activities we can offer our full range of activities including all the usual favorites such as gorge walking, climbing and sit on kayaking. Other interesting activities are Mine Exploration, mountain biking and a full day trip to Anglesey for coasteering and beach activities.
All activities are led by National Governing Body qualified instructors. Off-site activities we offer are: Gorge walking, Coasteering, Body boarding, Sit on kayaking, Climbing and abseiling, Coastal treks, Mountaineering, Beach craft, Mountain biking, Orienteering and Raft building. On site there is: Bush Craft, Archery, and BMX Biking. Not far from the accommodation is a pleasant beach, ideal for self-led activities. All activities are the same cost so are interchangeable with other activities from our list. There are also numerous historical and places of interest close by for teachers to run self-led activities in the evenings.
For accommodation and catering there is one free teacher place for every 10 pupils. Teachers do not pay for any activities. Activity programmes are designed individually to meet your pupils needs, the level of activity can be delivered to meet all skill levels and age group. Curriculum activities that we can cover from this location cover: Geology, Geography, History, Environmental studies and of course Physical education. For schools on longer or repeat visits National Governing Body awards are possible. Pre-visit site inspections are welcome so please call us to arrange one that suits you.
