School Educational Outreach & Workshop Information

Introduction for educational outreach & workshop services

Ride Segway’s ‘Segway Games’ were developed for a location in Blackpool, however we have had much interest from school and college groups looking for reward activities where the activities come to the school, rather than travelling out.

The Segway Games are like a Sports Day on Segways. Various games have been designed to be fun, silly, challenging and promote working as a team to complete an objective. Team and communication skills are 2 of the most important qualities when moving into the employment world – The Segway Games promotes this.

Why is your Outreach Workshops great for educational needs?

Most activities, especially with sports, mean that all participants are at different levels. It’s unlikely anyone has been on a Segway before (96% of our guests haven’t ridden previously) making it a level playing field. It’s something new, unique, interesting and fun!

Although the Segway Games are not for a particular ‘subject’, they promote key life skills which are a fantastic asset when moving from school to college, or college to university.

We also support healthy competition and tally points through the games to come out with an overall winner.

What does a typical school educational outreach or Workshop service include?

Every ‘Segway Games’ event is organised with the venue in mind. We use the facilities that are available and this will determine what games take place through the event. We can vary the length of the session to suit time constraints or budget.

Once a booking is taken, we assess the venue (both with the help of Google Maps or an onsite visit) to see the space available to us. Many schools or colleges use their playing fields as the venue rather than visiting one of our sites. This helps keep costs down for the school or college.

We arrive 1/1½ hours before the start time to set up our many obstacle courses and games. It takes around 30 minutes for us to pack up after the event.

We brief all students on the safety aspects using the Segway before the games.

Helmets are provided and are compulsory for all participants.

What group sizes do you cater for?

24 per session – 3 sessions per day (depending on time).

Can you take photos, video or audio? Are there any copyright restrictions?

Riding a Segway isn’t something you’ll do every day. We highly recommend getting group photos of the teams as it will help in students remembering a great experience.

Can you provide worksheets or information packs?

Full risk assessments which are reviewed on a per location basis (not always a generic risk assessment)

Informational letters to send out to parents/guardians who may want to ask questions about their child taking part in the event

Public Liability Insurance information (£5million)

What is your process for taking bookings?

Either fill in our form at or e-mail

If you prefer to call, you can do on 07549 873 833.

What is the cost?

We are likely to charge per hour rather than per rider.

Costs vary but start at around £300 for an entire day. This can change (go down as well as up) depending on number of guests, your location, and duration. Discounts are given for multiple day bookings.

Booked the 'Ride Segway' as a large group for a birthday experience. Easy to find pretty much straight off motorway! Had a short induction chat going over main rules and instructions then was pretty much kitted out on onto our first obstacle course! Was more than enough segways to ensure we weren't waiting but also good to watch others in group taking part. Staff were really friendly and helpful and definitely made the day more enjoyable bringing out the more competitive sides of some of our group! Also didn't rush us at all throughout the day asked if we had to be finished by a certain time and when we said no pretty much kept us busy for a good 3 - 3.5 hours so didn't feel like we were on a conveyor belt of courses! Very impressed with the staff who were constantly taking pics / videos of us attempting the challenges as we had an email that evening with lots of action pictures and videos of time trials etc! Really good day and fun for all ages and abilities cannot say a bad thing about the whole experience (apart from my team losing almost every challenge lol).

“Fantastic Ride Segway Games at Cuerden”

 Reviewed 13 August 2013

We had the Segway games event a Cuerden Valley as a work social event. It was a fantastic morning from start to finish. Stuart and his team ensured we were all fully briefed and trained using the segways before starting the games. The events were well planned and each of us had plenty of ride time. If you are looking for a group activity with a difference this is a must! I will be booking one of he Segway tours soon too!

Where geographically will you visit?

We are located and travel anywhere within the North West. Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside.

Is specific clothing required for when you visit?

We advise participants wear clothing they don’t mind becoming muddy/grass stained etc.

Do you have first aid or will the group need to provide qualified first aider?

A qualified first aider will be available however it is always recommended that additional support from the organisation is present (as they know where all the local facilities are).

Is there anything else that you feel is important and want to include in your information?
