On his recent visit to Wales, His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales made an official visit to Llancaiach Fawr to open our new State of the Art exhibition. He met staff and volunteers and had a tour of the Manor House on his visit. Calling all Muggles! To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is offering free entry to all children dressed as witches and wizards from Saturday 24th – Monday 26th June.

Children who visit in fancy dress will travel free along the line with a full paying adult fare* and will also receive a commemorative badge for taking part.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) and York College are pleased to be working together on the railways 60s Fest event taking place on the 22nd and 23rd July. The NYMR, which is less known as an educational charitable trust, works with a variety of learning establishments.  Due to the re-launch of a new, bigger and better 60s Fest event the railway has partnered up with York College to help inject some sixties groove.

SAFARI ACADEMY LAUNCH
In Summer 2017 we see the launch of our brand new purpose built Safari Academy! A purpose built eco friendly building ideal for carrying out hands on curriculum learning sessions with pupils of all ages.

In 2017 the railway celebrates 50 years since the formation of the charitable Trust (1967 - 2017) and to set the wheels in motion for this anniversary year, popular locomotive, Royal Scot, will steam in to the attraction and set off the new season in style.

Royal Scot, which was built in 1927, was the first in a new breed of steam locomotives, made by the LMS for their fastest passenger services from London to Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow. She was then rebuilt by British Railways in 1950 and went on to serve another 12 years in traffic on the West Coast Main Line. She was eventually retired in October 1962.
