Our Educational activities are led by a team of passionate educators, helping pupils to respond to our exhibitions and learn about local history.

Our Schools Programme uses creativity to support and achieve the aims of many curriculum topics and facilitates cross-curricular learning. Key areas of study include Titanic, Prehistory, the Romans, Anglo-Saxons and broader local history.

For Early Years through to Adult Groups the museum offers…

Discovery Sessions

Capture their imagination and bring the exhibitions to life during one of our interactive discovery sessions which take place in one of our exhibitions, encouraging investigation and discussion. Let our experienced guides use their knowledge to captivate your group and get them talking about the exciting things they see, and build their knowledge with great facts and stories.

Popular sessions include: Southampton’s Titanic Story, Southampton: Gateway to the World or one of our temporary exhibitions (check the website for these).

Hands-on workshops are a fabulous way to enhance your museum visit. Delivered by our expert educators, our workshops are packed with great interactive learning activities and resources. Activities can be adapted to meet any additional learning needs.

Popular workshops include: Under the Sea, Titanic, ‘Stone, Bronze & Iron Age’, the Romans, Anglo-Saxon Southampton & scrapbooking.

Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits?

Situated in the heart of the city centre, the award-winning SeaCity Museum tells the story of Southampton using cutting edge interactive exhibitions. Alongside our outstanding permanent exhibitions, our Pavilion hosts nationally acclaimed exhibitions from partners such as the Natural History Museum, V& A Museum of Childhood and the National Maritime Museum. We also have a designated learning area complete with 2 learning spaces, lunch room, toilets and modern technological equipment which is fully accessible. There is also a shop and café which is stocked with a wide range of products.

What does a typical school trip or educational visit include?

A typical educational visit to SeaCity Museum begins at 10am with a Discovery Session in the museum followed by a workshop in our Learning Deck. After a break for lunch a group will normally spend some time exploring the museum for themselves, being ready to depart around 2pm.

Workshops and Discovery Sessions usually last for 1 hour each.
