UKSA enjoys a waterfront location in Cowes on the sunny Isle of Wight and is the perfect location for residential and non-residential watersports and team building for students from 8 years upwards.

Visitor’s safety and security is of paramount importance. All instructors at UKSA are experienced and fully qualified. Ratio’s for on the water activities are 1:6. Teachers and group organisers do not need to have experience of watersports prior to the visit as our instructors take care of all activities afloat.

We are a ten minute walk from the heart of Cowes and the foot passenger ferry to the UK mainland. Many school groups enjoy getting a boat directly to our pontoons, which we can arrange.

Why you are you a great place for educational visits?
The wider benefits of participation in watersports are widely recognised and include inspiration, enjoyment, teamwork, boosting self-confidence and self-reliance, as well as the making and sealing of friendships. We can incorporate Skills For Life into our four-night residential activity visits.

UKSA are delighted to be celebrating our 30th Birthday this year and continues to make a positive difference to the lives of young people across the UK. Our continued growth and development ensures that the charity maintains its position as the largest provider of our type in the world. #WeAre30!

Do you have the LOtC Quality Badge or any other accreditation such as AALA?
UKSA is accredited by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom. Our site, facilities and activities have all been evaluated for learning and safety by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority.

What does a typical educational visit include?
Come to UKSA with your school or youth group and enjoy the multi-activity residential visits UKSA are renowned for. Learn to sail, paddleboard, windsurf, kayak and more. Activities are tailored to your group’s desires, age and ability.

What group sizes do you cater for?
We have accommodation for up to 270 people so groups large and small can be catered for.

Do you provide projects, teacher’s packs, work sheets or any useful information?
We can tie our visits in to either PE curriculum (for example, many schools have focused on kayak or dinghy sailing for GCSE), geography, or even maths.

Are you happy for children to take photos, video or audio?
Yes, although with our proximity to the water we don’t always recommend children bringing cameras and other expensive electronics. Teachers are welcome to take photos of their school group.

What is your process for booking pre arranged risk assessments?
We have risk assessments for all of our day and evening activities, as well as all sites used. We are more than happy for teachers to complete their own risk assessments and ask the team any queries they may have.

Does your venue have an education officer?
We have a dedicated Schools and Group team who can be contacted on or 01983 203045.

What is the cost of the visit?
Day visits from £35 per student
Please contact UKSA for latest prices.

Is specific clothing required for the trip?
We provide all safety equipment, wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets. We ask students to bring shoes they don’t mind getting wet, a rash vest or T-shirt to wear under their kit and casual warm clothes for coming off the water.

Do you have first aid on site or will the group need to bring a qualified first aider?
All our watersports and evening entertainment instructors are fully qualified first aiders.

Please list facilities available.
In-house catering, dining room, indoor heated swimming pool, classrooms, cyber café, bar, pool table and dedicated children’s area with air hockey and games.

What are your disabled facilities?
We have lifts in our main buildings and a hoist for the pool. We are also able to take disabled people out onto the water. Please speak to our course advisors when booking, so we can ensure we meet your needs.

What are your opening days and hours?
All year round, with the exception of a few days over the Christmas period.

Do you have any testimonials from previous schools we can include?
“To all the staff at UKSA. Thank you for a wonderful week. Our students (and staff) really enjoyed themselves and all achieved more than we had expected. The staff at UKSA were fantastic and all went the extra mile to ensure our students were able to access everything. It was a week we will all remember”

“The effort, enthusiasm and empathy that the staff at UKSA have shown to our pupils is second to none. Thanks for the brilliant Week”

Is there anything else that you feel is important and want to include in your information?
Come and try our watersports and accommodation with our compliments on a teacher preview. We welcome visits from teachers, youth leaders and school governors – it gives you the chance to try the facilities and see first-hand all the benefits of choosing UKSA.
