Our boating holidays provide a unique ‘learning outside the classroom’ experience giving the opportunity for students to study and grow and giving them a chance to explore the natural world. Young people have the perfect opportunity to push the boundaries, by encouraging independence self-awareness and promoting teamwork in a structured environment.

Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits?

Herbert Woods is a long established boatyard dating back nearly 90 years.

We are based on the Northern part of the Broads on the river Thurne; the Broads are 125 miles of manmade waterways stretching over 2 counties.

We have long established relationships with educational groups such as schools, scouts and church groups, who hire multiple cruisers. Our largest school group exceeds 80 students who visit us annually.

What does a typical school trip or educational visit include?

Each trip can be tailored to the needs of the group.  Possible curriculum topics may include history, geography, wildlife and conservation, water sports, life skills.

What size groups do they cater for?

Anything from 10 to 150.

What can they provide you with to support your school trip or educational visit?

Projects, teacher’s packs & work sheets are not available as standard however we are happy to work with teachers to put these together.

Can you take photos, video or audio? Are there any copyright restrictions?

Yes children may take photos, video and audio. There are no copy write restrictions.  

How do you arrange a risk assessment?

We do not provide risk assessments however we are more than happy to assist in compiling these. Please contact the office on 0800 144 4472 to arrange a risk assessment.

What does it cost?

The cost for example a school party of 80 requiring 13 boats is approximately £11,000.

Is specific clothing required?

We recommend you bring non – slip footwear, slippers, socks, wellington boots, warm clothing, waterproofs, hats, sleeping bag, sunglasses, torch.

Do you have first aid on site?

Yes we do have first aiders on site at the boat yard; however the group must still bring at least one qualified first aider with them.

What facilities do they have for school trips and educational visits?

Parking, free use of bridge pilot Potter Heigham and Wroxham Bridges, life jackets, bedding-duvets, pillows and linen (towels are not provided). Fully equipped galley, microwave if requested.  Deck gear- boot hook, life belts, anchors and ropes. Free WIFI whilst in the Herbert Woods’s marina.

Are there disabled facilities?

Our boats are not suitable for physically disabled children; however we are able to cater for children with learning difficulties.

What are your opening days and hours?

Open 7 days 8.30am – 5pm end of January until end of October.
