Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits?

The theatre stages several shows each year which are aimed at school children and relevant to the National Curriculum. For older children and families there are touring musicals and plays, many of which come direct from the West End. And of course there is the Christmas pantomime. A highlight of the theatres year and the festive season, this annual spectacular is loved by young and old alike and makes the ideal trip for the whole family, giving many children their first ever visit to the theatre.

Any size.  Many shows offer group discounts for parties of 20 and/or school parties.  Shows which are specifically aimed at schools often give free places to accompanying teachers. Contact the Box Office for further information on specific shows. Please note the theatre has a capacity of 1100.

Children are unable to take photos, video or audio during performances due to copyright restrictions, but they are welcome to take photos of the theatre before and after the show.

What does it cost?

Costs vary depending on the show. Many shows offer discounts for children, groups of 20 or more and school parties. Shows which are specifically aimed at schools often give free places to accompanying teachers e.g. 1 teacher per 15 children goes free.

Groups will need to bring their own first aider.

What facilities do they have for school trips and educational visits?

There is a kiosk in the theatre’s foyer which sells sweets, drinks and crisps before and after the show and during the interval. Ice creams are available to purchase during the interval priced £1.90 each. Ice creams for groups of 20 or more can be pre-ordered when booking tickets, ask the Box Office for more information. Groups should contact the Facilities manager in advance if they wish to bring packed lunches.

Are there disabled facilities?

Wheelchair users There are 7 wheelchair spaces with an adjoining seat for a companion in the stalls and 5 positions at the back of the auditorium. Customers should inform the Box Office when booking should they require a wheelchair space. Direct access into the foyer and stalls is via a lift situated at the side of the building on Jarrett Street and access into the stalls bar is via a lift situated in the foyer. There are disabled toilets in the stalls.

Visually impaired patrons VMAX Jordy headset is available, which must be booked in advance and a £10 refundable and form of ID must be given. Guide dogs are welcome, however patrons should inform the Box Office at the time of booking. Hearing Impaired patrons Sennheiser infra-red system headsets are available from the Duty Manager for a refundable deposit of £10 or production of current driving licence. Some productions have signed performances, check the venue website for details.

What are your opening days and hours?

The Box Office opens two hours before a performance on show days. Patrons can usually enter the auditorium and take their seats half an hour before curtain up. Tickets can also be purchased from the City Hall Box Office which is open Monday – Saturday 10am – 5pm and Sunday 11am – 3pm.
