The dazzling and diverse scenery of the Peak District and Derbyshire make it a paradise for walking, cycling, mountain biking and adventure sports such as caving, rock climbing, hand gliding and paragliding. There is also plenty to do for those with a more relaxed approach to nature and the great outdoors.

The accommodation is accessed via a key code pad. A pay phone is available for public use in Dining room. A National Trust Ranger is always if needed via our Edale Office and an out of hours emergency contact service is also provided.

The bunkhouse accommodates groups of up to 20 people.


Please provide location information?

Dalehead is situated in a remote spot in the Edale Valley. It is a lovely, secluded and peaceful place to stay. A stream runs past the back and sheep graze all around in the adjacent fields. The views are stunning all around and show the Dark Peak at its very best. Dalehead is also very close to Mam Tor which has one of the darkest skies around and is one of the top ten stargazing locations in the UK.

Despite its isolated location, Edale train station is a just a 10 minute drive away.


why you are great for educational visits?

The bunkhouse provides the perfect base for exploring the Peak District including
famous local attractions such as The Blue John Caverns, Castleton, Kinder Scout, Mam Tor, Ladybower Reservoir and Chatsworth. With many outdoor pursuits companies operating in the area, rock climbing, abseiling, rafting, canoeing and pot-holing can all be enjoyed nearby, with the village of Hathersage acting as a nearby hub for outdoor shops and activities.

Can you provide information regarding room sizes and room facilities?

The Bunkhouse is on two floors, with the main accommodation downstairs and showers and toilets on both floors.


• Front door with combination entry lock leading to the main living room with three large sofas, leaflets, the welcome pack and notice board;

• One shower room with sinks and toilets;

• The fully equipped kitchen with large fridge/freezer, toaster, microwave, hot water boiler, cleaning equipment etc

• Large dining room with 2 oak tables and 20 oak chairs plus two sofas, a coffee table for extra seating and a payphone as the mobile signal is minimal;

• Drying room for wet coats and boots.


• Bedrooms: there are three separate dorms, one sleeping 8 in bunk beds, one sleeping 6 in bunk beds and the third sleeping 6 in single beds.

• Second shower room with sinks and toilets;

Heating: The radiators run off the wood burner in the living room and there are also some portable oil filled radiators for extra heat if required. There is a supply of wood provided inside with extra in the wood store.

Are visitors allowed to take photos, video or audio, if appropriate?

Visitors are free to take personal photographs or videos of their experiences.


What is your process for booking pre arranged risk assessments?

Workplace Inspections are conducted on a 6 monthly basis. Fire alarm servicing is currently conducted on a quarterly basis.

What is the cost of the accommodation?

Mon-Thurs £190 per night, Fri-Sun £275 per night.

These prices are all based on sole occupancy.

Please list facilities available?

The National Trust run Penny Pot café in nearby Edale serves daily specials, hot and cold snacks, home-made cakes and scones and hot and cold drinks. Packed lunches can be booked through the Cafe if required for the day. The Cafe closes at 4.30pm, so early evening meals could be provided if booked in advance so you don’t need to cook for the group.

The National Trust and Peak District National Park Authority operate an Educational Learning Centre at the Moorland Discovery Centre at our nearby Longshaw Estate, with educational visits and walks available to book through our Visitor Experience Officer.

The Bunkhouse itself has an excellent lounge/dining area for socializing and relaxing. The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to cater for your group.


Do you have first aid on site or will the group need to bring a qualified first aider?

A fully stocked First Aid Kit is provided. All local National Trust Rangers are first aid trained, as are the Emergency contact Rangers, however it is recommended each group have their own First Aider present.


Are there disabled facilities?

The accommodation is over 2 floors, with all sleeping accommodation on the 1st floor accessed via a flight of steps with no lift or ramp access. It is therefore unsuitable for wheelchair users or guests with mobility restrictions.
