Essex Outdoors provides high quality outdoor learning opportunities from activity days and Forest Schools, through to residential experiences and adventurous expeditions.   Nestled amongst the creeks and marshes of the Dengie peninsula and surrounded by farmland, Essex Outdoors Bradwell provides a friendly and intimate setting in which school and youth groups can enjoy a variety of land and water based activities.

Our passionate and enthusiastic instructors are able to engage with children and young people at all levels in order to motivate and drive their enthusiasm for the challenges ahead. Their clear style of communication and encouragement also helps to create bonds within the team as they look to support and encourage each other through each activity. Teachers and Group Leaders can focus on ensuring they are getting the outcomes they require and build deeper bonds with their group. All of our activities can help to build trust, responsibility, confidence, interdependence and team work. Whether you are setting sail on the high sea or staying on land, Bradwell is sure to have a package of adventurous activities which will suit your required outcomes, as well as your budget.

Activities available at the centre include; archery, canoeing, climbing, crabbing, high Ropes, off road biking, power kites, problem solving and sailing. All of the activities include numerous links to the National Curriculum, so whether you’re looking for activities to support the delivery of the curriculum or just an opportunity for your group to have fun, we can provide the right mix of activities for you.

As well as being a popular centre with schools and youth groups for over 50 years, Essex Outdoors Bradwell is also a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) training centre, offering numerous professional qualifications in sailing and powerboating.

What does a typical educational visit include?

All of the visits to our centre are tailored to the specific needs of the group and the outcomes required by the teacher or group leader. A day-based visit could include a whole day canoe trip or a mix of any of the activities we offer at the centre including; archery, canoeing, climbing, crabbing, high Ropes, off road biking, power kites, problem solving and sailing.

What group sizes do you cater for?

We can accommodate up to 100 on activities.

Do you provide projects, teacher’s packs, work sheets or any useful information?

We have a variety of resources which can be supplied, such as links to the National Curriculum. Please contact the centre for details.

Are you happy for children to take photos, video or audio?

Yes but please ensure the instructor on your activity is aware so they can advise on the best time/location to take pictures/video.

What is your process for booking pre-arranged risk assessments?

We can supply sample risk assessments for our centre and activities as part of the visit planning process with us. You can also arrange to visit the centres before you book or prior to your visit.

What is the cost: of the visit?

Costs for each visit will vary dependent on the package of activities and catering options. Activity sessions (1.5 hours) are from £85 per group of 10. Activity days are from £340 per group of 10.

Is specific clothing required for the trip?

Waterproof clothing is advised. All technical clothing is provided.

Do you have first aid on site or will the group need to bring a qualified first aider?

All of our instructors hold first aid qualifications and have been trained in relevant pediatric and outdoor scenarios. There is always a duty first-aider available when groups are on site.

Depending on other customers at the centre, the classroom and lounge can be used to eat packed lunches.

Access to the main building is via a lift to the first floor, where the dining area and lounge are located.

Essex Outdoors Bradwell is open 7 days a week all year round.
