Description

Manor House Activity & Development Centre, based in St Issey near Padstow in North Cornwall, is a Residential Outdoor Activity Centre of outstanding quality. It offers exhilarating Outdoor Activities and Field Study Trips to suit all age groups.

School Groups have been visiting the Manor House for more than  20 years and recent investment in the house and equipment has brought many of the activities in house, resulting in vastly improved quality of each session, far exceeding previous experiences and those gained at other Centres throughout the UK.

One of the most exciting of the activities is Sea Cliff Climbing at a secluded cove on the North Cornish Coast which cannot be beaten! Most School Group Activity Holidays also include surfing or body boarding, kayaking or canoeing, off road cycling along with coastal and moorland walks. Visits to places of educational value can also be arranged, perhaps to Eden Project or Blue Reef Aquarium.

During the Spring, Summer and Autumn, Schools visit the centre to complete field study, participate in exciting activity courses or simply use the centre as a base for self-study or a holiday.

In brief, The Manor House has five multi-bedded rooms with four delightful twin bedded rooms for accompanying staff, a superbly comfortable lounge, two dining rooms and a particularly warm and inviting Farmhouse kitchen where guests often mingle whilst helping themselves to readily available free hot drinks. The Manor House also offers a luxurious Spa Pool for the sole use of our adult guests, which is surrounded by low level lighting on the decking!

Delicious Home Cooked meals are provided each day which cater for all special dietary requirements. Two course dinners are offered with ample amounts for second helpings, as appetites are often improved following a day in the outdoors! Continental breakfasts are provided with tonnes of cereal and toast along with orange juice, tea and coffee.

Picnic lunches are supplied each day which again cater for special dietary needs and to ensure that the lunches are just what you fancy – loads of sandwich fillings are provided for you to select your own individual sandwiches each day from the lunch buffet. Cold drinks are also available throughout the day along with a selection of fresh fruit. Hot drinks are also provided free of charge at The Manor House throughout your stay.

There are staff available on site throughout the night and the house has a security check last thing in the evening to ensure the safety and security of the residential group. Number locks are used upon the main entrance/exit for added security.

What size groups do they cater for?

The Manor House can accommodate groups of up to 55 guests. Groups of over 30 can also request sole occupancy which can have major advantages for the group as the Manor House quickly becomes the group's home for the stay. There is a minimum group size requirement of 10 students plus 2 staff for activity sessions or residential holidays.

Please provide location information?

Our Grade II Listed Georgian Manor House dates back to the early eighteenth century and is situated in the farming village of St Issey close to the Camel estuary, between the traditional Cornish fishing village of Padstow (3 miles) and the market town of Wadebridge (3.5 miles). The Manor House is central to and within easy access of the major tourist attractions that Cornwall has to offer.

There is a bus service through the village between Padstow and Bodmin. The closest Train Station is Bodmin Parkway and collections can be arranged from the Train Station if required. Transfers can also be arranged to and from Newquay Airport by prior arrangement.

Why are you  great for educational visits?

On the whole our residential packages are all inclusive of full board accommodation, activities (educational/adventurous) throughout the day and into the evening, entry fees, equipment hire, professional instruction in each activity and transport during the trip.

The Manor house offers bespoke courses, holidays and training to guests wishing to experience the outdoors in the fabulous environment of Cornwall. Each itinerary is tailored to meet the exact needs of each individual group whether that is Outdoor Adventurous or Field Study Experiential Learning. Discuss your requirements with our team and we will provide you with an individualised program for you to consider.

Packages can be adjusted to suit most budgets and the Manor House team always encourages clients to ask if they require something a bit different; the team will always try to accommodate special requests.

Field Study Trips are very popular and could focus on any number of different aspects that Cornwall has to offer:

Coastal Areas - weathering, erosion etc, viewing stacks, arches and blow holes

Beaches - rock pool study, beach studies, marine wildlife

Economic Studies - affects of tourism on the local area, affect of Rick Stein on Padstow

Eden Project provides a vast array of study opportunities and we are lucky it is very close and we have a great working relationship with the Education Team. A number of studies can be made with or without the use of an Eden Workshop – Plant Diversity, Recycling & Global Warming, Fair Trade etc.

All arrangements are made by us to ensure that the time you need to spend on planning your course can be kept to a minimum. We arrange all the visits and activities intended for your course and all the associated costs are included in the cost of the trip.

Some schools also choose to use the Manor House as a Field Study Base organising their own study visits and activities. One of our rooms is often turned into a laboratory for marine experiments and the main dining room becomes a classroom complete with interactive whiteboard, flip charts and reference books.

We help with the planning and organisation of your trip to save you time!
