Beaudesert Park is set in 125 acres of wooded glades and open parkland on Cannock Chase in Staffordshire, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The park is situated between Lichfield, Cannock and Rugeley, and is adjacent to an iron-age hill fort, adding historic opportunities and stunning views. Beaudesert provides a rich venue for day trips and residential visits, with activities relating to the curriculum at each stage.
Please provide location information?
Beaudesert is within easy travelling distance of Birmingham and the Black Country, Staffordshire Moorlands (and Alton Towers and Drayton Manor), Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage site and the motorway network. Recreational and leisure facilities are close by.
Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits?
At Beaudesert Park, we have been welcoming groups since 1938. Beaudesert attracts groups from all over the UK. 45000 activity days were delivered in 2009-2010 season. There is plenty of week-day capacity for young people from schools or colleges to enjoy the secluded and self contained site.
Within the parkland there are habitats of particular interest, conservation and environmental study opportunities and the pond and cascades are suitable for dipping and such activities.
A wide variety of activities are available on site, both instructed and self-led, including low ropes, Jacobs ladder, crate stacking, indoor and outdoor rifle shooting, traverse wall, zip wire, initiative exercises, assault course, abseiling, archery, and indoor crafts.
In addition, we have a pond onsite which is used for coracles and raft building.
The site is ideally situated for Duke of Edinburgh expeditions.
What does a typical school trip or educational visit include?
Activities are available during the day, and groups in residence need to arrange their own evening programme. We are happy to help groups to plan their programme and suggest ideas for inclusion.
Beaudesert can be very busy during the summer weekends, particularly during the school holidays, but term time, midweek availability is good and Beaudesert has a great capacity to provide for a number of groups whilst maintaining seclusion.
Beaudesert has been catering for young people for over seventy years, whilst constantly developing facilities and provision. Leaders, teachers and, most importantly, young people, enjoy Beaudesert.
The staff are both experienced and capable, and are used to meeting the needs of site users, regardless of age. Our users tend to come back time and again – why don’t you join them?
What size groups do they cater for?
From a mini-bus to a coach or a whole year group, the site can cope with up to 1500 young people at any one time. Accommodation blocks vary in size from 2 to 24 beds and can accommodate up to 124 in total. Typically, group sizes are classes or study groups.
What can they provide you with to support your school trip or educational visit?
Beaudesert is working to develop project and teachers packs and has risk assessments for all activities to support visiting groups. Teachers, lecturers and group leaders are welcome to come to the site for a preview visit. Please contact the reception to discuss your needs in advance.
Can you take photos, video or audio? Are there any copyright restrictions?
Please call to discuss your requirements.
What does it cost?
Charges are based on facilities used and are based on a daily rate. Schools and groups are not limited to package prices and are free to create their own programme to suit their own budget.
Is specific clothing required?
We can advise once you have selected your groups activities.
Do you have first aid on site?
The adventurous activities at Beaudesert are licenced by AALA and instructors are qualified to deliver our full range of activities. There is a rescuer on site whilst activities are taking place and the staff are trained in first aid.
Can you provide information regarding room sizes and room facilities?
There is a varied combination of indoor accommodation available for groups, with a combined capacity of 124 beds, and camping facilities for up to 1500 people. All groups should arrange their own catering. Project rooms containing kitchen facilities are available, as a base or for more structured activity.
Are there disabled facilities?
Most of the accommodation buildings are accessible for wheelchair users, and two of these have disabled toilet facilities. We have a further two disabled toilet facilities on site. Beaudesert aims to cater for all members of the community and is working to develop new activities for all. However, some of the areas on site are rough forest and some activities by their nature are challenging for all. In some instances, this challenge lends itself to team-building development, to ensure inclusion.
What are your opening days and hours?
The reception at Beaudesert is open from 9.00am to 4.30pm, every day, with extended hours on Friday. Whilst it is advisable to take account of the seasons and daylight hours, Beaudesert can offer a welcome at times to suit most groups, by arrangement.
Is there anything else that you feel is important and want to include in your information?
A conservation plan has been drawn up to relate the natural and built environment and to create opportunities for study and understanding of the historic landscape. Part of the AONB of Cannock Chase, Beaudesert has a rare flora and fauna and rich links to the past. The nearby Museum of Cannock Chase provides links to the industrial and military uses of Cannock Chase. The rich forests and terrain provide a setting second to none. Adventure, team building and study, all have great opportunities in the woods and glades of Beaudesert.
