Essex Outdoors Danbury Centre for Outdoor Learning is a residential outdoor education and activity centre, located in seventy acres of prime Essex countryside, just one mile from Junction 18 of the A12.

Boasting stunning views from the highest point in Essex, the site offers the perfect setting for enjoying residential and day courses and activities, or simply exploring the local environment.

Danbury also offers a number of courses in activities such as mountain biking, climbing and canoeing, from introductory level through to professional training for aspiring instructors. We also run Duke of Edinburgh, Countryside Leader Awards (CLA) and (Summer) Mountain Leader Awards (ML) training courses.

Each visit to us is completely tailored to your group – we will work closely with you prior to your arrival with us to ensure your program is exactly what you require.

All of our centres are AALA licensed and have achieved both the LOtC quality Badge as well as Adventure mark accreditations.

What size groups do they cater for?

We can accommodate up to 450 participants on site, with up to 140 in internal accommodation and approx. 300 in tented accommodation. We can also deliver activity sessions for 200 at any one time.  

What can they provide you with to support your school trip or educational visit?

We can supply teachers packs and resources if required for specific visits or projects.  Please discuss this with the bookings team at your chosen centre.

Can you take photos, video or audio? Are there any copyright restrictions?

We ask that you discuss any requirements for photography videos etc with our team prior to arrival with us.

How do you arrange a risk assessment?

We can supply any necessary risk assessments for our sites and activities as part of the visit planning process with us. If you are an Essex school or youth organisation subscribing to our Educational Visits service, this will be taken care of as part of your submission for the visit.

What does it cost?

Costs for each visit will vary dependent on the package of activities, accommodation and catering options chosen.  Single activities start at £8 per head for a group of 10 young people, full activity days start at £32 per head, and residential visits start at £230 for a 4 night stay. We offer 1 free leader place for each 10 young people participating. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and we’ll supply you with an individually tailored quote for your proposed visit.

Is specific clothing required?

We provide an information pack for you to give to your group prior to arrival containing kit lists specific to your visit, which will be dependent on activities and time of year.

Do you have first aid on site?

All of our instructional team hold first aid qualifications and have been trained to high standards relevant to both pediatric and outdoor scenarios.  There is always a duty first-aider available when groups are on site.

What facilities do they have for school trips and educational visits?

At Danbury we have a range of facilities and accommodation to meet your needs! Our log cabins can sleep up to 110 in internal accommodation, and our residential unit provides self-catered accommodation for a further 30. We can also accommodate up to 300 in tented accommodation.

We can cater for all of our customers in our brand new dining hall, which can also be hired as a training/conference venue; and we also have a state-of-the-art conference room available to hire.    

Our activities range from archery, BMX, canoeing and mountain biking through to climbing, high ropes and quad biking. We also offer problem-solving, team-building and obstacle course sessions, and in 2014 we will be unveiling our brand new aerial trekking and zip wire course!
