Essex Outdoors Danbury is a residential outdoor education centre, located in seventy acres of prime Essex countryside, just one mile from Junction 18 of the A12.

Boasting stunning views from the highest point in Essex, the site offers the perfect setting for enjoying residential and day courses and activities, or simply exploring the local environment.

Danbury offers a huge range of activities, from archery, BMX, canoeing and mountain biking through to aerial trekking, climbing, high ropes and quad biking. We also deliver Duke of Edinburgh expedition programmes.

All of our centres are AALA licensed and have achieved both the LOtC quality Badge as well as Adventure Mark accreditations.

What does a typical educational visit include?
Each visit to us is completely tailored to your group – we will work closely with you prior to your arrival with us to ensure your programme is exactly what you require.

What group sizes do you cater for?
We can accommodate up to 450 participants on site, with up to 110 in internal accommodation and approx. 300 in tented accommodation. We can also deliver activity sessions for 250 at any one time.

Do you provide projects, teacher’s packs, work sheets or any useful information?
We can supply teachers packs and resources if required for specific visits or projects. Please discuss this with the bookings team at your chosen centre.

Are you happy for children to take photos, video or audio?
We ask that you discuss any requirements for photography videos etc. with our team prior to arrival with us.

What is your process for booking pre-arranged risk assessments?
We can supply any necessary risk assessments for our sites and activities as part of the visit planning process with us. If you are an Essex school or youth organisation subscribing to our Educational Visits service, this will be taken care of as part of your submission for the visit.

Does your venue have an education officer?
Essex Outdoors hosts the Educational visits team for Essex County Council – this is a subscription based service available for any Essex-based school or group. For further details please contact the Educational visits team on 01245 221022

What is the cost of the visit?
Costs for each visit will vary dependent on the package of activities, accommodation and catering options chosen. Single activities start at £9 per head for a group of 10 young people, full activity days start at £30 per head, and residential visits start at £120 for a 4 night stay. We offer 1 free teacher/leader place for each 10 young people participating. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and we’ll supply you with an individually tailored quote for your proposed visit.

Is specific clothing required for the trip?
We provide an information pack for you to give to your group prior to arrival containing kit lists specific to your visit, which will be dependent on activities and time of year.

Do you have first aid on site or will the group need to bring a qualified first aider?
All of our instructional team are first aid trained and there is always a duty first-aider available when groups are on site.

At Danbury, we have a range of facilities and accommodation to meet your needs. Our log cabins can sleep up to 110 in internal accommodation, and our camping grounds can accommodate up to 300 in tented accommodation.

We can cater for all of our customers in our brand new dining hall, which can also be hired as a training/conference venue; and we also have a state-of-the-art conference room available to hire.

Our activities range from archery, BMX, canoeing and mountain biking, through to aerial trekking, climbing, high ropes and quad biking. We also offer problem-solving, team-building and obstacle course sessions, and in 2017 we unveiled our brand new caving system and ‘vertical’ obstacle course!
